Sorry to waist time with a simple little report, for most of you.
But I just picked up my 1992 ADV-FJ80 and needed to get out, get the kids out and just drive my new truck - NOT ON TARMAC!
Living in Orange County, California does not provide the easiest of access to dirt much less, dirt roads!
But we do have a little bitty spot of dirt and then there is the SaddleBack / Santa Ana Mountains. While the majority is still closed due to the fires, a nice little part is still open and we are off to see what of it we can see!
We can see this much while in transit on Bake Parkway.
While the fun side of Santiago Canyon Side [toward the left] is closed we will be going in off the Ortega Highway [toward the right].
Meet up with my co-worker:
No joke here:
HAZARDOUS!!!
Yes, we have some forest in Orange County boardering with San Bernardino County - we share:
We are on Ortega Highway and entering Cleveland National Forest and the kids know we are getting close.
My daughter is taking pictures of everything and this is just off the Ortega Highway, to the left is the direction we are headed, Blue Jay Campground. In this image, the road straight ahead in the short cut down the backside of Ortega, the dirt express lane that I have seen Civic's and boxtrucks truckin down when the Ortega pass is stopped due to construction and such:
Not even in the dirt yet and getting great views like this looking over to the San Bernardino side and to the right is Lake Elsinore of which we will have a better view once we get up on the dirt road:
In the dirt and visible signs of the fire:
Meet up with some Jeepy'crawlers getting their dirt-fix:
2D regenerated view never shows the 3D actual of just how steep anything ever really is:
Part of the fun, you just have to be out there to see it!
SO off to the next little bit:
It's GREAT to just be OUT!!!
And GREAT VIEWS!!!
Hard to see, but at the top of the "hill" is all the repeater stations and when all the gates are open, you can drive up and over:
We have actually be up there during the SNOW! Yes, SNOW IN OC! That was in 2006-It was just little ol'us in a Scooby and two large Uni's cruzing around on the hill:
I think they where a little shocked to see us up there!
So flash back forward, we hit the mid-way gates and we either turn around or go down the side toward the 15-FWY, so I never have been down all the way out through the gate so we make way down, out and back around to Ortega, but go up the side dirt express way - quick little trip of about 115-miles round trip from garage door to garage door.
Last shot going down the backside of Saddleback... if anyone knows, know where the white rocks on side of the hill that spell out "FISHING" and this is basically where this road comes out - half way between Corona and Lake Elsinore.
My Quicky-ADV-trip for a day!!! Much accomplished and kids are ready to go again!
