Here in Australia if you have a lot of money you pimp up your 4wd at places like ARB, TJM, Opposite Lock, etc. 80's hold their value well.
But the largely 'wank factor' accessories are very over-priced and all the places know it but there's a massive demand because 4wd's and Suv's and ute's are very big sellers here in Oz. All power to someone who kits up to travel the outback and actually travels the outback often, but for once a year trips to Dingo Piss Creek and back the bling does nothing most of the time and just adds extra weight.
A guy at my work loves going to far north qld for holidays annually in his Hilux and has a lot of stuff for that, but he uses it (fairly regularly), and a lot of the gear can be taken off and stored when not required (fridge, etc.). All the extra stuff pushes the vehicle weight closer to maximum payload capacity and makes it very easy to exceed GVM or (if towing) GCM just by carrying one extra person for example.
