Too few left to let it sit. Rebuild. A labor of love and probably a lot of frustration.

Looks good from the front. Any idea what FMCP means? And what does it have scratched on the front about jeeps?

It has a lot of interesting commentary and rattle can graphics that probably shouldn't post. They previous owner was definitely a character.

So, I was trying to be funny about the question, (probably failed) even though really do enjoy seeing this everyday in my backyard.. Truth is . It is going to be built into on of a kind 55.
It currently has a non finished 89 Chevy suburban 2500 drivetrain in it. D44 front, 14 bolt rear. TBI 350, 700r4 with NP205?? (Not 100%) has breaks and steering, that's about it, motor is just sitting, all electrical is toast, and floor is completely rusted out.
I actually got this from Kurt Williams about 2 years ago.. my plan was to purchase 80 series and do body swap.
Long story short. Got the 80, hated it, was also too clean to cut up, so sold the 80.
Freind of mine bought the tan Seqouia in my profile pic, rolled it.. I bought back, so it's the new donor. Just waiting for a couple other projects to finish then on to this. I'm super excited about it. I've loved, and wanted an FJ-55 since I was a kid.

Overall plan as of now..
Cut Seqouia down to fit the shell of 55 on top of Seqouia floor (55 floor is 90% rusted out) do SAS to custom driver drop 8.5" (same that's in the rear of Seqouia) with 80 series ends links, basically 80 front suspension because thats IMO, the absolute best part of 80 series.

Wheel base will be appear stretched, my measurements put the axle in a really good spot to get rid of a lot of the 55 overhang. So, hopefully, just opening up the wheel well will get it done.
37' tires and the usual lockers gears.. probably do crawl box, or atlas. Idk, just want to get it driving first.

I'm sure the plans will change, I'll hit all kinds of challenges, but hopefully in the end, I'll have a 55 that Wheels as good as an 80, with power and comfort of a Seqouia. Wish me luck.. šŸ˜€

(I do plan on getting the motor running and seeing if it drives before ripping it all out, so if you're interested, it will all be for sale)

Does that say: J**ps are G*dā€™ šŸ’©??

A couple thoughts on your plan.

Have you actually measured a 55 width compared to a Sequoia? 55's are actually very narrow and small compared to modern vehicles.

Also, if you're going to convert the IFS on the donor to a solid axle, there's a fair bit more involved than just slapping the axle under an IFS truck. You'll need a steering box as the rack won't work. The donor engine will need a 100 series oil pan since the truck engine oil pan will interfere with a solid axle. Then you'll need all the axle mounting points and spring buckets. I'm not familiar with the Sequoia frame, but it may not even easily accept all the necessary mounting of SA parts.

Honestly, you'd be better off sourcing a rolling 80 chassis than trying to convert this to SA or build an IFS pig.

But that's just my $0.02

1st gen sequoia
Wheel Base 3,000 mm / 118.1 in
Track, Front 1,674 mm / 65.9 in
Track, Rear 1,679 mm / 66.1 in

2nd gen / 3rd gen
Wheel Base 3,100mm / 122.0 in
Front Track 1724mm / 67.9 in
Rear Track 1755mm / 69.1 in

J55
Wheel Base 2,700 mm / 106.3 in
Track F/R 1404.6mm / 55.3 in

J80
Wheel Base 2,850 mm / 112.2 in
Track Front: 1608mm / 63.3 in
Track Rear 1613mm / 63.5 in

I also think youā€™ll be better off with a j80 frame.
@TachedOutOffRoad has one. @cruiserjunktion put the 80 pan in his. (Then the 80 seats & console bolt in.)

Hereā€™s mine.

Body width will also be an issue when marrying the sequoia pan to the 55 body.

I agree with @samc2447

Id go Big Tree engine, trans, get a passenger Tcase, 80 chassis.

If youā€™re going to link it, maybe use whatever axle you want, but grafting 80 suspension is going to suck A LOT. 37ā€s get big on the rear of a pig. Have to cut a lot and/or big lift. If I was to get a custom housing, Iā€™d get a 9.5ā€ diff and not the 8.4ā€ sequoia rear. For the cost of a housing, shafts, and all that, you be getting into complete 80 chassis category.

Deo put the 80 interior lower body on his 55 to run the 80 seats, but said it was a huge pain and not worth it.

Of course, you do you, not sure of your fab skills, free time, tools, etc.

Like @gonzopancho said, there are a few threads with chassis swaps. Maybe read them over and see the trials and tribulations before you dive in.

We will all watch and cheer regardless.

Except @J Mack . Heā€™s a dick.
