My 9/72 40s water pump pulley is about 1/2" further foward of the rest of the pulleys. Could the water pump be from a later 2f engine the PO installed? are there spacers that could be installed wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

There are a couple of variaations for water pump. I went through this trying to get the correct water pump for a 1977 engine I put in my 1962 FJ40. The SOR link is what I used to figure out mine.

If it's a cast iron water pump, it's probably the right length. Perhaps you have a narrower pulley on the water pump than on your crank? If so, then you have a 67 and older pulley, and you need to find a 68-72 single groove pulley. They have a wider groove and about 1/2" difference in spacing.
