Quiet day here, replaced the pads and rotors on Bette's Honda today, did some electrical work on the garage and started painting the hardtop on the 40. Figure it will look a little better green than red. Found some rattle can paint that is pretty close.
Want to wheel some more but with the Holidays coming time is scarce.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

spent the weeekend puting the whole dash back togeather on my friends 85 mini and rebuilt 85% of my outher friends 85 4runners front axle. way to mutch to do way to little time

i geuss I will jump in.
was pretty cruiser productive this week end. I sand blasted and wire brushed my roof rack. then lshot 2 coaats of epoxyy primer, 2 coats of chasis balck and 3 coats of clear on it. wasn't too bad 30 minutes here and there shooting the coats of paint. should get it on tommorow at luch, just want to give it another night to dry completely.
also spent saturday afternoon switching my steel moonie wheels off my fj62 for some fzj80 allumiun wheels. boy was that a battle getting my 34" truxs off the steel wheels and on to the alluminuim wheels.. anyway looks good will post some pics tommorow when I get the rack on.
now i will clean the steel wheels up and mountmy spare mt's on them for the lv. no hurry there though its still awhile yet until the lv will hits the road.

I did some other little things ordered anotheer @%) in paint from eastwoods.

So did you finish that axle rebuild? tomorrow I gotta go install some windows but get in touch if you need a hand to finish that axle. Also I should probobly grab some of my tools from your bacement =P

Since we are talking about wrenching...

Wired an aditional lighter to the 40. Now I have a place to hook up the computer and GPS.

I need new tires... too lazy to change tires from the 60 to the 40, since I have parked the 60 indefinetively. Might swap the 2F and transmission into the 40 and scrap the rest of the 60. Maybe the axles too.

That is a decision for the spring.

How is the drivetrain in the 40?

Solid. I just know the 2F better than the F155. And split transfer case is so much better. I am always afraid I will break the F engine. But if it has lasted 34 years, there is not much I can do to it to kill it, short of negligence.

Is the disk brakes and changing the stance of the 40 what I am really interested in.

I'm sure it would be an upgrade to drop the FJ60 power train and axles in. Wider stance, fine spline vs. course spline axles, split transfer case.

Just "drop it in"? Should only take a weekend!!!

Well... there are other considerations. Rear main should be changed out, and since the transmission is out might as well put a new clutch. Perhaps rebuild the top... we are talking more than a weekend here. As far as I know, since the 2F/H44 combo is longer, so a new hole for the shifters need to be done on the floor, and for the axles, outboarding is necessary.

Mucho dollar, mucho time, no space, not enough tools. :crybaby:

fun to dream tho!

I have no doubt that you will! Do a little bit at a time, as time and money permit!

yeah, definitely not an easy job, I know it's way above my head. :) :)

Any regrets or second-thoughts going from a 60 to a 40?
I am still getting used to the harder pedals and the gas tank inside the cabin. Love the soft top. No PS is "interesting" to say the least. But no regrets. Adn I have not gone from 60 to 40. I still have the 60. I have plans for it, but you never know... I might leave the 40 alone as just reburbish the 60 to make it a home base camper.

i think i am biting off more than i can chew this weekend but here goes...

- install the hellroaring dual battery set up. all the wires are cut and ends crimped on. all i need to do is install.
- install hella map/reading light
- install center lock diff switch
- 7pin mod
- more rust prevention

I just finished installing some Longfields and 4x4labs steering setup. Thanks again to Ken and Dave for helping.

Will be working on the following this weekend:
- Dave B's rear bumper for the 40
- installing hardened hub studs
- brake lines on front axle
- body work
- hard top install

If anyone needs anything welded, bent, or feelin' social etc, a few of us will be in the garage on Sunday. Stop on by!

hey man "crimping wires" …bad. Solder and heat shrink tubing is a lot more dependable. All the wiring on my truck from the previous owner I had to rip out since the bastard used crimp connectors, a lot of the electrical had problems because of them loosening up over the years
