Would a 2nd electric fan restrict airflow? (1 Viewer)

I have 2 oem fan motor's laying around and I was wondering if there was any harm in installing a 2nd fan on my cruiser.
I was wondering if another fan would restrict airflow and if anyone had attempted this before.

The 01 already has 2 fans. Primary and the smaller secondary. The US spec anyway. Are you wanting to put in a 3rd?

Mine has an electric fan on the right hand of the a/c condenser and the clutch fan attached to the motor, I want to install another electric fan on the other side of the a/c condenser.

EDIT: The fzj100 land cruisers like mine do not have the secondary oil cooler in front of the condenser.

Both are pretty cool at the moment but I guess it wouldn't hurt for them to be even cooler, the temperatures here are soaring above 120F almost daily plus I already have the motors so it wouldn't hurt.

Even if you did have a cooling problem I would make sure the OEM system was 100% functional before I started adding components.

Based on my experience living in desert conditions most of my life even a US made vehicle will run all day long in 120° temps as long as the cooling system is in proper order. Your 100 should handle it with no problem.

There's nothing wrong with the cooling system as is and the wiring is already in place to connect it to the other fan so that they work as a pair.
Does anyone have a solid reason not to go ahead with this?

Your statement is correct. They should be able to handle the temps. Im in Phx and mine doesn't. Can't find a solution either. No leaks or drop in pressure, new fan clutch. I guess I will keep replacing good parts until I find the culprit.

What temps are you running, and at what ambient air temps?

at 110 ambient, I will hit 217-222 while idling. Lose ac comp at 217.

What year 100?

Toyota did away with the factory electric condenser fan in 2003. Being in AZ I have found a need for it in our 06 and installed one for cold air when sitting. As for high water temps I have never seen a problem on a 100 series even here in AZ.

I believe all 100 series in the GCC had fans till 07 so I think it's a good idea to install one on the 03+ models that don't come with one if you live in a place with a similar climate to the GCC (120+ Degrees very often)

I agree it was a dumb idea to do away with it

Side note - I tested a bunch of factory Aux fan from several major car manufatures and found the Toyota 100 series to put out the most air so I made a kit to work on my 80 series

That is very high- that would concern me enough to consider adding a fan. Might also check your radiator for patches of bent fins, or other external restrictions like fins clogged with dirt, sand, bugs (all of the above) maybe doing a pressure test, and checking for internal scale thats potentially causing a flow restriction or blockage. Might be time for a new radiator. For reference, Im averaging a consistent 195-198 in 95 degree ambient temps, but it has gone as high as 202 momentarily and I think my average running temps are a little high.

Interesting that none of the aftermarket cruiser parts retailers offers an optional fan kit. Seems a well thought out kit would do well.

Are you guys using pusher or puller fans? Thinking puller would work better. Challenge is getting the the fan shroud close to the radiator surface so it pulls air through the radiator instead of from the sides with out resting the shroud on the radiator fins- which will rub through the fins and cause a leak.

FWIW If you're experimenting with a fan set up, I have found SPAL fans to be very reliable in harsh conditions: cold, hot & wet environments. If you dont know about SPAL, they are an Italian manufacturer supplying OEM to the Auto/Moto/Military segments. Many options redly available online. (amazon)

I think going with the OEM fan and OEM fan housing is the best setup.
The OEM fan will start working after the A/C pressure exceeds 222 psi using the switch under the driver's side headlamp.
