Help me straighten out a Early Bronco owner, what was the last year of FJ40 series production world-wide?

wiki says 1984, but doesn't say if U.S. or world-wide. Then there are the Banderante's (sp?), which I believe were produced for some period beyond Toyota's stop date?

I tried a qwik search and scrolling through the FAQ and didn't see anything that would obviously answer this question, but I've got to think that it's not an uncommon one so please bare with a 60/Mini owner's silly question.

TIA

My thinking as well.

That was fast!

Gracias!!!!

will argue that 83 was the last true production year and that some of the left over vehicles were badged as 84s, but who knows for sure. this used to be fairly common prcatice back in the early 60s when it comes to fj40s. that's why a lot of the 61s, 62s and 63s had oddball parts on them.......

my hj47 is an 84.

84 always seemed to be the last year of production for the 40. They were pulled from the American market in 83, only a few hundred were sold in the final year or two of importation to the US.

I have heard that some 45's were built after 84 for industrial reasons usually, like mines, or military, etc... I suspect they were simply built from old parts stock, or out of sympathy to maintain some loyalty with customers while a new reputation was built with the 7X series platform.

In 1988 Chevy chanced the design of their trucks but the suburban and blazer were later. I think that's what happen with the 4x series. Short wheel base first than the longer ones later. The 70 series started with the 1985 model but did the 75 series come out the same year? I was just emailed some pictures of a 1986 HJ47 troopy in Central America.:hmm:

I told him 1984. Idjit stated that they were still in production and still available everywhere but in the U.S.

also tech. not a true 40 series but theres icons. ICON

1986 was the last year in Venezuela for Toyota-assembled FJ40s and FJ45s (LWB pickup and troop carrier). Toyota de Venezuela ran its Cumana plant into early 1986.

i read an article in an offroad mag a few years ago about "the last fj45". it was put together from parts by an industrial vehicle specialty dealership in south africa and sold in late 86. typical non-usa rig; diesel and treyback. dark green from what i remember but it's been a while.........

in most other parts of the world, toyota relies on the DIESEL and TURBO DIESEL models that are still made new today. I had a friend from South Africa show me the toyota south africa website: look that one up and drool away!!!!!!!!:p

www.toyota.co.za/

beleive they have changed the model numbers though, so 1984 is the right answer to the question above.

and while you are drooling, think about how best to thank our federal government and oil corporations for STILL REFUSING to let us legally buy a MORE POWERFUL Toyota engine, that pollutes less, and gets double the gas mileage!!!!!!!!!:censor:
