Not the wrenching I was hoping for this weekend...
Got a ride from a friend w/ his 88 Cabriolet Convertible to grab my uncles ‘02 Tundra to use while I figure out some rust on the Nissan that’s pretty darn bad. Truck had an battery light right at start up but ass me mistakes it thinking engine. My Nissan has an engine light frequently enough that I just ignore it (evap stuff). Truck felt funky so I pulled over to talk to my friend who was following me. It sat idling but again ass me didn't pop the hood. Managed home but definitely had intermittent loss of power then it would resolve relatively quickly. Got it to my Napa near my house to pop the hood and find crazy corrosion and then discover the alt belt was shredded and broken and simply laying over the pulley.
So here I am, wrenching on yet another vehicle. Oh yeah and check out the air cleaner box!

I did get these in the mail which is a perk to the day.

And I had this back and forth w/ @FJ40Jim regarding the lifters and cam.
Lifters are NOT domed. The cam lobes are tapered just as I had noticed when I had my cam in hand last year and measured it compared to the one Drew sent me. Mine was w/in spec, his was way out. I noted the taper then because of how the calipers could only touch the very center point of the lobes.

I hate Tundras. The mantra in my head, ‘never borrow someone’s car regardless of it being a Toyota.’

I just got a 20 ton shop press Friday and already I have two friends who need me to help them with their “pressing matters”...:rimshot:

Even though I have a few Land Cruisers and a 4-Runner, I do have to admit I really like my Silverado 4WD 2500HDs, especially the work truck with the 496 CI V8 and 6-speed manual transmission :). I would own one of the original Tundra 4WD crew cab models if I didn't need the towing capacity of the Silverados.

I'm amazed (not really given all you've done so far) at how you're not afraid to tackle most anything on your FJ60, and the good work you do. Keep it up!

Like most things I feel like I have little choice.
Speedo working, battery amps way up to a normal level, no squeals from the belts. I had to replace the alt tensioner bolt after finding it bent. I had to clamp it, cut close to the adjusting nut and backed it out. Then I put my truck battery in (he said he’d had the truck 5 yrs and never replaced. It charged but took a good 6 hours to go from 8 to full) and upgraded his battery ground w/ my heavy duty one and new used positive connector I had kicking around.

You'll get all kinds of opinions on this, but I smear Alum or copper anti-seize on the battery terminals and never any corrosion. Works for me.

What a weekend. Jeebers. I also now have a baby mallard in my possession because it must have hatched and got separated or got away from predators as the rest of its family was eaten. The wetland behind my house is mud and loaded w/ coyote tracts. I’m not keeping this bugger no matter how cute it is but I did my duty and set it up nice in a temporary home.

Took the truck for a spin down the lake. All good but the spring that clamps the hood tight keeps getting tensioned from popping the hood release and won’t let go on its own. At least now I know how to tweak it back w/ a screw driver. I swear what else is coming?! Make it easy!

I've got a good hood latch that's been sitting around my garage forever. On me. Let me know if you want it.

Quote from shop. I robbed Paul to pay Richie $500 down.

That price doesn't look bad at all. Just got back from AK and was wondering how things were going.

You going to have them build it too? Never mind, it looks like you'll be building it!

Doing well. Waiting on cam bearings which I’m having them install since they’ll taper the block holes so they don’t get shaved as they’re pressed in (I saw that happening when I added mine so figure it makes most sense for them to do it).
Other than that chugging along best I can on other projects. I’m in no rush.
This Sat I agreed to go help a local guy setup his desmog system in his new 60. Will be fun to get away from my own stuff.
Thanks for checking in Drew!

Yesterday after patching leaking fuel lines on my Nissan the brake lines decided to start leaking. Talk about utterly burned out. I sat there just crying. Totally done.
Today I took a huge risk and went to a Toyota dealer and have walked away w/ a Mazda '11 stick, they wanted $9900 but cut the price to $6500 w/ 1K down, payments of $189. It was the cheapest car on their lot.
I’ll have the Tundra for a bit yet and will pick up block and it’s parts soon but getting the Nissan going had been my primary focus.
Bye bye little Nissan, it’s been real. $50 back in ‘11, 168k miles and she’s now at almost 212k.
Friday I’ll pick up the Mazda.
A quick spin in the back lot revealed a nearly hidden 40 (I didn’t get close to check out details) and in the showroom a’69 40.
