I know its customary to show and tell when one gets a new toy.

just didn't have the pic handy till now cause the camera they were on was with my other half. I did drive it away, but had to trailer it back to Great falls so I can work on it.

its a 76 FJ40 with a 350 with a 4 speed and PS that I am working on at the moment. getting the PS gear box rebuilt cause its started to leak when I took out the column to put in a bearing.
Knuckles are next so I can start driving it. might do Axle bearings I think while I am in there. well see how it looks once I get into it more.
waiting for parts.
the 80% is rhino lined inside and out. not sure I like that part, but never the less I have a cruiser to share with my family. the boy are really excited as so is my girl friend.
have lots of reading to do and learn cause this is my first FJ40.

Congrats, enjoy in good health.....looks solid

Nice find! :clap:Where did you pick it up and how did you find it? What kind of PS setup is in it?

Well, its kind of funny how it worked out.
I was surfing Craigslist MT for Subaru's and sent a FJ link to the girl friend for fun. and her reply was that is sweet lets get one of those instead. oooooh, ok (my reply) so in the course of three days I round up a trailer and head down to Bozeman to pick up the family to drive 2 hours west to George town lake to check out a cruiser for sale, with the intent to buy. Great guy selling and before i left town Great Falls i was showing a buddy the listing of what I was going to check out. and noticed another posting for a 76 in Bozeman. so I figured I would look that one over (under flashlight cause of time of day) before we headed west. so at least I have a second opinion. it was ok, not to keen on the rhino liner every where, but it has some advantage to change the rigs color at any time with a rattle can, lol but the top part that comes off cause my guess is what is it hiding.
so west we go. arrive to George town lake (lake side) to a snow and broken shovel. the gentlman that was meeting us had to shovel through a drift to access the cruiser. shovel broke. gas pedal linkage broke so we could not hear it run. but turned out it was a little rougher than I was prepared to deal with. I felt bad for the situation cause the guy was really nice. so not getting the 1970 also with a 350. we headed back to Bozeman and being day light we called the 76 owner and asked if we can drive it.
so long story short, we talked it over and the kids loved it cause of the jump seats. made an offer and drove it home.

then I trailered it to Great falls, where i have a garage to tinker with a few issues. steering column bearing (done), Saginaw PS from a junk yard (being rebuilt cause I caused leak grinding welds and turning hard to get column out), and the leak under the disk brakes that will require a Knuckle rebuilt ( at least that I am buying parts for) and might take out the axle bearings just to make sure there good so I don't have to go back in later.
then I will start driving it and working on stuff as i go. but wanted a few important parts good to go.
so there you have it. there is some rust in the normal spots, but we dont plan on any crazy re-build at this time. its out beater fun rig that i get to drive to school and take the family camping in the surrounding places of Montana. yahooooo

already getting Kurt from CruisterOutfitters by name cause of e-mail and parts ordering. lol
and I have only scratched the surface I know.

thanks, I new it was addicting, but DAM.

I had similar issues with FTE and my truck. I almost think this is worst cause I didn't go crazy on the truck like some. but could have.
this is surly different
but really excited so Game on, but i have TONS to learn. heck the terminology alone is just the start. lol

and trying to figure out what I have in the rig. what was done type of stuff

Great solid looking rig. I look forward to seeing what you do. Now you'll just be looking for excuses to drive it. Anything to go to the grocery store :)

Sweet rig man, congrats. Ive only had mine for a couple of months and its been in the shop most of the time, picked it up today from the mechanic and dropped it off at the tire shop. Got to drive it for 5 min. Making me jealous seeing you sitting in yours. Cant wait to play with the new toy.

Are you going to use it for hunting? and where at in georgetown? i have a cabin up there

well mine hasn't moved since I unloaded it cause of the steering or lack there of at the moment. I will drive it a little bit to show it off and such, but then its back to the garage so I can tear into the front axles.
those pics were the weekend we bought it. I do admit I did sit in the rig a few times, but did not make motor sounds to add the effect. lol

First, Welcome to the madness. If your steering is sloppy check your tie rod ends, next, Kurt at cruiseroutfitters has a rebuild kit for those knuckles, Easy to deal with and easy on the wallet.

Congrats, she looks solid. Nice choice over a subaru. Aftermarket exhaust alone cost me 450. Glad to hear the whole family will get to enjoy the madness together.

congrat's on the find-===looks like a good one..have fun in the Montana Mountains........

The 1970 rig we looked at was about a mile past the boat ramp where the kiter's hang out on Georgetown Lake. To answer a previous question.
