I have a 2009 Land Cruiser. I like to drive in thunder/rain storms. Sometimes the rain comes down pouring really fast. My wipers have 2 speeds: slow and medium. Coming from german flagship cars I feel like I am missing a speed higher than medium. Did Toyota ever change or improve wiper speed? I believe somewhere in 2010-2011 they added rain sensing wipers which is something I really wish I had.

Any input is appreciated!

I'm assuming some tongue in cheek there...but you DO have intermittent speeds below the ones you call slow and medium, right? I've driven in some pretty hard stuff and find it adequate, and have never really even thought about it being too slow. Hmmm... Maybe something is wrong.

When it comes pouring down on the highway, I can only go ~50 mph as the wipers aren't keeping up with the rain and I can't see far ahead. In some of my past BMWs the rain wipers would move soo fast I would expect them to fly off the windshield. They would wipe the windshield faster than every second.

I think there must be something wrong with your wiper motor.

When I read where you said your BMW wipers wiped the windshield "faster than every second..." I decided to go out and time mine...because I was quite sure that my LC goes at least that quickly. And it does--

Result: They sweep the windshield 13 complete, forward-and-back cycles every 10 seconds (significantly faster than once per second). By cycles, I mean...they wipe fully one way, and also fully back to start position. So...this actually means they span their arc of travel (sweeping water) 26 times every 10 seconds if you count both directions.

If yours aren't doing this...something is wrong with either your wiper motors, or your wiper switch.

Mark you are always awesome! I will check mine tomorrow and see if it's moving at the rate of yours. It didn't feel like that earlier tonight but I need to time it to be sure.

FWIW, I use the RainX windshield wiper fluid which leaves a water-beading coating on the windshield. This really helps with removing water from my field of vision and in some instances, I don't even "have" to turn on my wipers.
