thanks for the links

btw, are you guys dealing with this...

Where the heavy rust is seen on the seam is exactly where I would see water form and roll out from under the windshield rubber. No problem since the new rubber, buytal, and glass. I am going to check Seapotato's suggestion too, as a preventative measure.

As to your earlier question Gold Boy, I don't think the wax oils will be an issue.

when the warm weather comes, i will be getting out the silicon goop and the anti rust oil. my glass is good so i want be pulling it, to replace the seals.

btw talking of ant rust treatment, the brackets i welded on the front cross member of the frame for the aiasin winch, i forgot to paint them, so i sprayed them with rustcheck Coat & Protect for the winter and there is no rust just the black coloration of the anti rust treatment.

Yup, exactly but my seam looks better than that, and not quite that bad. No water in the heater sec or blower bone dry after a good soak

I think its important to have enough ventilation inside the holow frame from the inside. The original paint inside are not good and the difference between cold air and heat from the inside make condese inside the windshield. I have made some smal holes on the underside to let the water out. I also spray chainsaw oil into the frame every 2. year.

When I got my rig it was about a year old. I took out every bolt I could find in the frame and then sprayed it with anti-rust out of a rattle-can meant for rust protection in hollow parts of the frame/body.
A thin long tube with a nozzle that sprays in a circle goes with that type of cans.
This thin tube can be inserted through the bolt holes. Insert it in full lenght and then, while spraying, pull it out slowly. Later found drips of the goo along the A-pillar, the spot where the frame vents at the outside of the body, just in front of the door hinges.
Rig is almost 14 years old now, have some minor leaks somewhere, but the frame itself still is free of rust.

I think to change my windshield frame...

...but i don´t find windshield frame free-rust (used)

JAPAN 4x4 find me a new windshield-frame in Japan (cheap) but the shipping cost is to high! :bang:

Your think is good choice to buy the polyester windshield-frame???

Safe?

Quality?

Thanks!

I don't know of anybody doing a fiberglass WS frame that wouldn't involve the same kind of shipping expense as an OEM one from Japan. If I did and it was similar quality to some that I've seen for 40 series I would not hesitate.

Anybody have a current list price for OEM? Somewhere around 800US?

Mine leaked between the frame and the body on the left side. I sealed the entire joint with black selastic and never had a problem since.

The problem is that shipping from Japan to Spain (Europe) is very expensive, however the cost of shipping from France or Germany is much cheaper :hillbilly:

Thanks Loewnbrau!!!

Bought new seals and allready used some sealant as well. Even taped all the zones where the frame meets the FRP-top and the body.
Sealant and tape does not help and seals are not installed yet as the weather is still too bad to get the frame out (have to do it in the open). Not that I expect a lot of those rubber seals now that I found that tape doesn't help, but the old seals are dry and have cracks and therefore replacing them is not a bad idea.

I never can find any water around the window frame thou. I now suspect the plastic pieces Seapotato mentioned.
Every now and then I find a drip of water in the heaterfan area and on the passenger floormat.
To inspect those plastic parts I have to take out the apron, sitting between frontwindow and hood. Still to be done.....;)

I believe it is a common problem. I've seen a few JDMs come to Canada with this solution. Mine leaks pretty good when parked and snow is melting off it but not while driving in the rain. I suspect the the rubber seal is undersized to begin with and then hardens with time. Someone should make a neoprene replacement.
