Want to tint the windows in my 60. I got a couple quotes from businesses in town ($300 and $230).
Today I was talking to my buddy and he suggested ordering the pre-cut tint packages off of EBay. I typed my vehicle year and model with "window tint" and there were kits for sale for $25 for all pre cut tint pieces and instructions.
Has anyone tried this? Opinions?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

when it comes to tinting, i always let the pros do their thing... "The Tint Guy" is really good if you're near enough to atlanta. i was quoted $355-$430 for the 62 all the way around, but that was for whatever was the fanciest haha.
That bubbly, purple look just doesn't cut it, even if it is a ton cheaper to do yourself :hillbilly:

If you are very stubbornly DIY (like myself) then it's worth a try. You'll gain some experience along with a new respect for the pro installer that does the job well in a little over an hour. Quality film is quite cheap $, the remaining cost is for the pro's experience.

I agree with this. I've done 5 vehicles in the past. Yes, the pro installer is quite talented and quick. If you've never done a tint job.. I'd recommend practicing on a piece of old glass first.. It takes me around 4 hrs for a cruiser/ SUV..(generally about 30 min per piece +/-) No pro here by any means but, looks good and lasts when I'm done. Using a lot of soapy water is the trick for me...

Use the hell outta soap and water spray. Clean the whole rig before you even start the actual tint job. Clean under the window gaskets and dont wipe the windows clean with a towel...use the squeegee provided with the kit. Keep the household window cleaner in the house, the ammonia will ruin the tint. Watch a few youtube vids of the process.

I got a $230 quote from a place in town. He says it come with a life time warranty. I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and taking it to him. I like to DIY but I know my limitations:)

I have done a couple of tint jobs take your time and use A LOT of soap and water and you should be fine

I bought a pre-cut kit and install kit from Ebay about a year ago and it's still sitting on the floor next to my desk.... :crybaby:

It's a trail rig so I don't really care how it looks as long as it works... If I had a DD or something less beat up, I'd prolly have it professionally done.

It's easy guys, a lot of Johnson's baby soap mixed with water, a couple squeegees and a couple really sharp exacto knives. I won't get into the whole process here, but the general idea can be found on the internet. Internet. Is this thing still around? Quoted by Homer Simpson.
Good luck, and any f- ups are easily fixed/ redone. I buy the stuff from the auto parts store, not the best regarding long term, but cheap$$.

Johnson's baby SHAMPOO, not soap.

Thats exactly what I paid last year also with a lifetime warranty.

I just got a quote for my 60 for whatever kind of tint I want all the way around for 125$ I'm not sure if it's got a warranty or not though. All the people here in town say he does a good job, including one of my best freinds.

get the tint from advanced auto ...Gila ultra shield brand ,its got the gold on the box . Its not purple at all , and as long as u take your time and clean the s*** out of your windows it doesn't bubble up. My lil brother has tinted quite a few cars over the past couple years with this same tint, (including my cruiser) and they all lasted no peeling and still look great not faded!

I used 35% for the front two windows ...20% for the rear windows and 5% on the very back glass (although i wish i would have used 20% on that too) it cut out a whole lot of heat in the summer makes my A/C work soooo much better! :D

Get the 3M.. superior product. Should cost no more than $200 IMO. But I live in AZ, labor is cheap on everything.
