Ok with the Canadian dollar where it is, it has become very attractive to pick up a Warn winch...I'm on the Winch Depot site, where they state that you figure out the winch capacity by multiplying Gross vehicle weight by 1.5, Using roughly 4000 lbs for my BJ40, that means a 6000 lb winch would do? This seems undersized? The M8000 Warn looks great at less than $600 compared to the XD9000 at $750, and the 8274 at over $1000. Bear in mind I'm 24V, so finding used winches has been difficult...shipping alone is huge, vs free shipping from Winch Depot...

Anyone using an M8000 on their BJ/FJ40? thoughts? comments?

Well to give you an idea I have a Warn X8000i on my LX450. ( The X8000i is just a warn M8000 with an integrated solenoid. ) That winch is truly strong. It yanks me out of mudholes and other people too. The other day I pulled a z71 Tahoe buried in the mud. I think that would be more than enough power for you. Especially if you got a snatch block for those occasions where you need more.

They will ship in the U.S. for free...I'm close to the border, that's all I'm saying....

X2 on the M8000, and my M12000 24V has much better speed then the M12000 @12v. I haven't compared the M8000 12v and 24v tho, did you?

EDIT: ok i just check and with the M8000 there is almost no difference, suprising cause with my M12000 it is almost double the speed of a 12V and speed similar to the 8274 24v that is faster then the 12v. Anyhow 24v winch rocks! lol

I had an mx8000 (older version), then an m8000 on my 40 for years without a problem. Used it many times in snow, mud, rocks, etc. Very nice winch. The only reason I still don't have it is that I had my front end rebuilt recently including a new bumper for an 8274.

i have a m12000 on my 40........a little over kill and i had to custom fit it. I also have a synthetic cable...

Definitely look into a synthetic cable...maybe if you ask them to switch it out they will give you credit for the steel cable. Worth a shot.

this must be a typo but according to warn's website, the m8000 has a 4.8hp motor that pulls 8000# @ 8.01'/min compared to the 8274-50's 4.6hp pulling 8000# @ 6.1'/min

whatsupwidat???

that doesnt sound right..........the 8274 is one of the quickest pulls out there.

Getting the run around, the M8000 was misquoted, for 24 V it's now $800 plus new...

I'm back in the finding a used 8274 or 9500 mode...but 24 v are so hard to find....

I've got the M8000 on my Tacoma in an ARB bumper. I also bought mine from winch Depot. Great
winch! I added a synthetic cable to reduce weight. I would definately go for the 8000 over the 6000.

The general rule of thumb is that the winch SHOULD be a minimum 1.5 times in power the weight of the vehicle. Of course the stronger the winch the better, to a point.

do these things come with the cable or is the cable separate?

and

it sounds like the M8000 is fine for type 80? aka, block and tackle it to improve pull?

and should I mention Beauforts avatar was better before.. i miss it already

The M8000 comes with the steel cable already on the winch. It's a piece of cake switching out
the steel for synthetic if you dcide to go that route.
