I'm finally installing a winch. I'm almost done, and I notice both flanges are drilled and tapped for the screw that attaches the rope. Yellow grease is dripping from both. Fine the grease will stop when I attach the rope on one side, what about the other? I'm going to be pissed if I have to pull the bumper back off, I even gave the appropriate sacrifice.

Well crap, the replacement parts drawing shows a hole on the passenger side not the driver side.
I think my drum got drilled on a shift change.

My winch only has a hole on the dry side. I think that's the grease in the planetaries leaking out. No grease allowed in the drum, that's where the brake is.

It turns out to be excess assembly lube. Running the winch 30 seconds each direction seems to have cleaned it out. Both flanges are correctly drilled, the line drawing is incorrect. So, no dis/re-assembly!
