Will the kick-down cable for a 93 to mid-95 FZJ80 (Cable Assembly, Throttle) 35520-60111 fit in a 95-1/2 to 97 FZJ80?? (1 Viewer)

The original kick down or Throttle Cable Assembly for a 95 to 97 FZJ80 with the A343F transmission has been discontinued for about a year, that's been discussed on the forum in the past.

However I started searching around trying to find a replacement for that cable (Cable Assembly, Throttle) 35520-60140 and came across 35520-60111 which is still available but fits the earlier models (93-94)

So for grins I ordered the Throttle Cable Assy, 35520-60111, which was used on earlier FZJ80 models with the A442F transmisison (which itself is a supercession from 35520-60010) and come to find that it's not exactly the same in appearance regarding the heat insulation sleeve for the later years of FZJ80. Instead of a heat reflective insulation sleeve it has a foam tube around most of the cable (see photos below).

The length of the part for the early models (35520-60111) is ~42 inches from the tip of the red rubber on the TB end to the tip/end of the black plastic part that goes inside the transmission.

So bottomline I'd like to compare an original cable for the 95-97 FZ80 model, 35520-60140, to 35520-60111. If someone has an original kick down cable from a 95 to 97 FZJ80 laying around it would help. Main info needed is the length of an original cable along with photos including both ends but particularly the end that connects to the transmission.

Point of this is, if the only difference between the cables is in the foam sleeve then a heat reflective insulation sleeve could be added.

I'm using one now on my 95'. It's a little shorter than the original, so we had to dial in the adjustment.

*Note - my throttle body is in a different location because I'm SC'd.

White Sheep: which transmission does your 95 model FZJ80 have, and is your throttle body position further away or closer to the firewall compared to a stock position? And how much did you have to "dial in" the cable, mm's or inches?

Also, did the replacement Throttle Cable (35520-60111) connect to the transmission correctly; same design for the transmission end of the cable??

Could you post up a photo showing the replacement cable and Throttle Body?

The throttle body is closer and I just had to tighten the tension on the kickdown cable.

I have the A343F transmission. The connection from the kickdown into transmission is different, but still works.

There is no early 95-mid 95 distinction. The 1994 model year ended in December 1994 and the 1995 model year began in January 1995.

The 35520-60110 (replaced by 35520-60111) is for the A442 transmission, which ran through December 1994 in the US market. The 442 was used in other markets well after that point. In fact up through late 2006 the A442 was used in the Venezuelan Autauna. The 35520-60140 (now discontinued) applied to the A343 transmission beginning in January 1995.

Beyond a used replacement or a 93/94 modified replacement, I wonder if a FZJ105 replacement would work. I may try to procure one if they’re still available--Edit: unless that's a completely dumb idea. I've done far worse in my life.

FZJ105s used A442 transmissions.

Great catch

105s use the same cable as the 442 80s. Probably why that one is still available.

If anyone has a later model Throttle Cable assembly (35520-60140) laying around (new or used) and could post up a measurement of the length of the cable housing/cable it would be good info to add to the thread.

Any updates on this Kernal ?

No, haven't found an original A343 cable to compare to the A442 cable. I suppose if someone got their later model FZJ80 up on a lift they might be able measure the length of the original cable starting from the transmission??

As it is the original Throttle Cable (kick down) (in a 95+ FZJ80 with the A343F) comes very close to the rear manifold heat shield when using the factory bracket that bolts to the rear of the head along with the ground strap. If the A442 cable is not much shorter it could work, maybe by bending or modifying that bracket??

The engine-end of things is not where the differences are. It's the routing and what happens inside the transmission that matters

So are you saying the A442 cable wont work for the A343, regardless if it will reach?

One individual earlier in the thread stated that the transmission end of the cable (35520-60111) designed for the A442 transmission did fit into the valve body of an A343 transmission.

Still looking for a used (or new) cable (35520-60140) designed for the A343 so that the two cables could be compared side by side.

If anyone has a used Throttle cable (35520-60140) from a 95+ FZJ80 lying around it would help if they could post up photos with measurements.

@jeffwgates Thanks and Welcome to MUD !!!

Could you post up a photo or two showing the black end of the cable that goes into the transmission?

I'll pull out my new 442 cable and double check it's complete length.
