So I posted a wanted add for one original steelie....and a few guys replied if the rim was for a drum axle or disc. I converted my rears to disc brakes and was assuming I could use my original rims. Will I have problems?

I am near the point of sandblasting and painting the rims but if I need to find three disc style rims I need to get in gear.

:bang:

Are they welded or riveted? 77 would likely be the welded "disc brake rims".

I woulld assume welded since they are original 77 rims. If they are will I be ok?

I don't have them here where I can look. They are at the shop to be painted.

I just completed my rear disc conversion a little while ago. I have wagon wheels...but the disc and caliper sit inside the rim with more room to spare than when the drums were stuffed in there.

I will call the shop in the morning and have them look at the rim. No rivets = works. Thanks everyone.

actually, I am not sure if they will or won't work with monte carlo rear brakes, I know they won't work with the front disc brake conversions though....

plus you will want to be able to rotate your tires properly.

Is there anyone out there who has done rear disc with monte carlo calipers that is using the original steel rim?

it depends on the rotor in the case of my rear conversion

I had a thin mounting flange on the original rotors i had for the disk conversion on the rear and i had to run a spacer.

When I replaced the rotor after many MANY miles...it was very thick on the mounting flange....so i didnt have to run the spacer anymore.

:meh:

worse case...you'll need a spacer

best case... no spacer LOL
