Gents,

I'm seeking a motor for my 1996 LX 450 due to a bottom end rod knock. Unfortunately, slim pickens in the marketplace when it comes to engines. However, there is a guy semi-local to me that has a 1994 Land Cruiser for sale & I'd like to know if (for the most part) the engine from a 94 LC will work in my 96 LX 450?

Obviously, the LC is a OBD-I & my LX 450 is OBD-II, but I'd like to know what other hang-ups are there in the engine swap process.

If you're in the DFW, Texas area & have a strong motor for my 96 LX that you're interested in selling, please ping me.

94 lacks crank position sensor (can add by swapping oil pan if I recall) and harness different. Throttle body electrical connections may differ but I don’t really know.

I’ve seen the topic discussed in the past so I know the info is out there.

Good luck

The long block will work, but lots of stuff has to be changed, even the timing chain needs to come off.

You will need to swap out several things because your 96 is a OBD2 and the 94 is an OBD1 you can get a new long block from Toyota for $4500, and I would go that route instead of a used motor

A local bought a truck with a knock from another local. He told me he fixed it for a few hundred bucks, without pulling the engine. Replaced the crank bearings or connecting rod bearings or something, I don't remember the details. You might want to look into that.

Thanks for the replies. I'll use this knowledge to go-forth in my endeavor on this topic.
