Will engine number tell me build date?

Hey guys,

I’m curious if there is code (similar to how the VIN is configured), that will tell me the build date of an engine using the number stamped on the block? I’m trying to determine the build date of a NOS long block that has never been in a vehicle.

Yes.

Since you don’t indicate an engine, we really can’t tell much more than that.

Ok. So a crate long block replacement.

Right hand side of the engine:

1. Block back by the #6 cylinder there will be a cast number.

2. Bearing retainer up front by the timing cover will be another cast number.

Those are your casting dates.

The Toyota part number label will have the assembly date.
