I have found a decent fj62 , i would consider buying it and driving it while i find a 13bt if one can easily be put into a 62 ? should be the same as a 60 ?

thanks kevin

Should be the same as a 60. The question is are you going to do just an engine swap or engine/tranny combo? I don't know about compatibility between the 13BT and the A442. Somebody else who does will probably chime in....

My 1988 BJ74 with 13BT has an A440 tranny.

You will have to cut and weld some new mounts and get the appropriate radiator and transmission.
It is doable as the 62 is much the same as a 60
.
If a 12HT could be sourced it would be a little easier and much nicer to drive.
Of course a 12HT i going to cost more

I think the A440 w/ a 13bt will have a different valve body than w/ the 3FE.

If you are interested in a 13B-T w/ A440F or a 12H-T w H55F
shoot me a pm. Ciaran at CruiserLand Ent is putting a 13B-T/ H55F into a customers FJ62 right now.

I'm pretty sure matting a 13B-T with a 440 is posible .. but with a 442 more complicated .. coz it never come and the 442 was born in 90 ! not in 80

different imput shaft in the tranny from the gasser to the diesel...

Tell me more about the transmission mating.

I am considering using a dead engine FJ62 as a donor for my Bj60. I am a little ambivalent about the transmission so long as it has an overdrive gear, ie something other than my 4spd. The 62 obviously has the A440. So, I'm wondering if I can adapt it to my B3?

I know the HJ60s had the A440 as an option. Can the shift points of a gasser A440 be adjusted to the needs of a diesel? What else is involved?

3B onto an A440? Don't go there. A 3B can't afford the loss of power through the tranny... ya ya.. I know, you can turbo the 3B. I would go 13B-T minimum. As Wayne mentioned, different input shaft splines. If you are going to put the 3B in then put the 4 or 5speed in along with it.
1HZ H55F 5speed makes for a nice 60 powerplant. 130 hp, 189ftlbs, about the same numbers as a stock 2F, you can turbo em with great results.

Hmm... now I'm stuck in a pickle.

Basically, I love the 60 series. But my wife doesn't like riding in it as is, ie she wants more modern amenities. I admit I'd like a quieter interior (carpet would be a big upgrade from the no-mess floor) and comfortable seats myself.

I also love the diesel. I've found my B3 plenty powerful for my needs. Doesn't lag on the highway up hills. Merges with traffic reasonably well, though won't win any drag races. Climbs the mountain just fine.

I can't afford to restore my rig. I can't really afford a good clean donor cruiser. I've seen a couple DOA 4runners I could afford.

Does anyone know if the B3 would shoehorn into a 4runner and what transmission would be a good fit?

Let me see .. 3B in a 4Runner .. I thought in 3B with tranny and t-case coz you really need input shaft and so .. for sure if you change the 4 runner t-case you must need to change at least the rear axle housing ..

should be a different bell housing also...

also i believe the input shaft differs between the b, h, and f motors
as for a 3b in a 4runner, i've seen a picture of it done in a hilux which is much the same vehicle. all i remember was it was a very tight fit. I think the radiator still squeezed in though.

as for the transmission i would assume he just used a h55f and split transfer.

If you fold down the back seat, that 13B-T should go in through the rear tail gate pretty easy. I once had two full 3B's in the back of a BJ60. That 13B-T should fit in there easy.
