It's sad.. but I am seriously contemplating selling my '96 LX450 which I just started doing amateur/minor wrenching on..

replacing it with a 98+ FZJ100..

Am I crazy? Will the wife notice a difference? I think we'll go test drive a new one.. then if she likes go find/hunt for a used/affordable one...

New wife?

If you have the stock LX suspension, changing that would make a big difference. Even my wife noticed it and said it was a big improvement.

Of course, since your doing that, you might as well get one with the 2.5" lift as its really the same price. Then when you need new tires eventually, the 285's will fit nicely there.

then of course there are lots of pictures and threads on this site showing how Armor in city driving conditions improve safety and kept your vehicle from getting damage.

Got to have a plan. But the OME suspension will make a huge difference in the handling. Let me guess, she probably really hates it when you are going around a corner.

Is it way to bumpy for her for just a little to bumpy?

Maybe you could try a 80 or 85 series tire?
Lower your current tire pressure.
Softer springs and struts?

Or you could try taking your wife out in an older Toyota Mini truck.
She will start loving the lexus then. :)

Cheers,
Nick

FZJ80's have solid front axles which have more of a 'truck' ride.

UZJ100's have IFS up front which has more of a subtle and 'car-like' feel.

Best thing to do for the 80 series suspension is to keep stock height and either go OEM shocks and springs, or some other combination.

Cheers.

difference in ride between 80 and 100 is like night and day.
100 is sooooo much more comfortable...!

Temucla huh, I currently have OME stock height coils about a year old and Rancho 9000RX adjustable shocks (read harsher or softer ride) about two years old that I'd seriously sell to get an OME 2.5" heavy lift.

I have to agree with what's been said. When I replaced the shocks about two years ago (I'm the original owner of a '94 for your reference) I noticed a difference. When I replaced the coils, I noticed a HUGE difference. Vastly improved handling and ride.

I'd go that route or Cdan's route! :D

That was my plan from day 1. My wife not being happy threw a wrench in my plans on surprising her with some armor for Valentine's day. She's already had a few close calls with idiot drivers and can understand the benefits... I just don't want to pour any more money into the vehicle if I'm gonna be changing vehicles soon.

It's my wife's car. It makes me feel safe to know she's safe. I don't drive hard when driving it.. it has some aftermarket no name shocks in at the moment. I have a set of Toyota Shocks but have not put them in b/c I was thinking of getting Bilsteins and a lift... everything now though is on hold.

I don't know were Teemecula is, but if you can find someone with an 80 or LX450 who has the OME suspension, she will notice a big difference.

Then show her this thread and how you are getting the ARB for her:

Eventually you take it and add sliders and you have a great rig. Buy her a 100 series when you can heep the 450 for yourself.

That's what I was thinking.. need to see for myself I guess. I really wanted to have a vehicle with solid axles front and back.. but in reality all I want to do with it is go down to Baja and back.. no serious rockcrawling or anything like that in my future...

I actually already had.. about half a year ago when I first read it.. I'm glad to hear your daughter got through it just fine.. but you know what? I think I'll send it to her again!

I really wouldn't mind keeping the 450 and think it's a good idea but I just got an RX-8 a week ago and might need to sell off one or two of my 4 motorcycles and the Frontier the RX-8 replaced...

When I was at Sedona seeing some of their Jeep Tours I think I got bitten slightly by the "crawling bug"...

Waterbed???????

Agreed, but I feel like the 80, even in stock form, but especially with the 2.5" OME, handles much much better.

the 100 is very comfy and a real smooth ride, but it's not wishy washy either. Drives very nicely.

keep the 80 for yourself and get the missus a 100! worth it!

If she thinks the ride is harsh, she'll think the 2.5" OME is worse. The handling is much improved, but you feel more bumps.
