Checked the gear and it still has the original plastic gear. Any one know a source for a replacement , it’s the earlier type with woodruff keys.

it’s not broken so maybe I have some time.

Found a source for some rattle paint that the color matched the original paint on the floor of the Silver Spoon so I ordered 6 cans for stock. The color match was amazing

I'm not sure if Evan printed up that style. You might have to source a new pinion gear that matches the other style ring gear. Put yours back together and begin your search for parts.

The third attempt at the early gear pattern failed ,
Thanks for trying to make these gears happen. Are any of the later year repro gears available??

My gear is the earlier type so I will need to find a later model donor assembly with the correct pinion gear shaft.

One small step for me, one giant step for LipStick.

More trivia detailing

I could just use double sided foam tape but it make it vulnerable for heat stroke failure So I went the challenging route.

retrofit the original spring clips to the mohair dust sweep that is readily available.

first wire brush each clip and rust inhibit and polymer coating

Nice work! My gate has a slight bend to it as I imagine all do from sitting or standing on.

So when I first got lipstick I had to get a leak repaired to the gas tank. At the time I wasn’t up to the task of pulling the tank myself so I had a local shop ( Ojai) take care of it.

It seemed to do the trick for a while but the more I drove it the smell got worse and it showed signs of seepage coming from the top of the tank again.

Pulled the tank today to explore. The main cause this time was that the spring clamp on a vent hose had not been reinstalled properly... Left dangling on the hose 2 inches back. I realize it in a very difficult place,, but difficult don’t work.

The tank repair putty they used looked like it was holding sort of but there was signs of oooozzzzing. I don’t do oooozzzzing.

Goofy crap like that is why I like to DIY.
Yes, it wil be a PITA and take 2x the time, but there will be no taste of failure left behind when you pay the bill.
I would be frustrated...

Early this week a friend who is a seasoned welder, soldered the small split in my tank. He said the gas tank bubble gum looked like it was working. So it looks like the main leak was from when the PO or PPO or maybe a PPPO didn’t take the energy to install the spring hose clamp on the front vent hose. As I found out it is very difficult to get to without freeing it from inside the cargo side chamber.

So I cleaned the out side of the tank hit it with a scouring pad, coated it with Black Star rust neutralizer and rattle canned some gloss black. So I scoped the inside and found it to be perfect except for a couple spots of no consequence. Took a photo of the split from the inside put couldn’t load it onto the computer for some reason.

Never pulled or reinstalled at pig tank before so it was a real adventure solo in the driveway. Hoses all hooked and no leaks with 7 gal in the tank. Unfortunately there still seems to be an odor when driving. Non from the engine area non from around the tank. New sending unit gasket no smell there. It seems to come from the cargo drivers side where the filler hoses are. No bad hoses but they are the original ones.

Do old hose seep odor from years of saturation? Would new hoses cure the issue?

Looks like more exploring.

On my '74 there was a plastic check valve that had split, letting vapors into the passenger compartment.
It was on the cargo panel, just upstream of the vapor separator. Pics in my thread.

This was a 70 build date. It has 2 breather hoses from the tank to the top of the filler neck. That’s it. The hoses are definitely original. Just 2 short hoses one about 12” the other about 16”
What is your system doing for vapor recovery? If the answer is "nothing" there's your problem...

Every thing on this pig is original. Nothing missing nothing altered except stereo.

Two vents come out of the top of the fuel tank and dump into the top of the fuel filler neck. The hoses are original.

Haven’t explored further yet. Been busy with a tailgate party 🎉

Thanks for the input

Two steps forward one step back

Started to dry fit the tailgate gasket sweep for install

When I checked the fit on the gasket something didn’t add up. After checking numerous measurement’ it turns out that the gasket is 1-1/2” too narrow. The 2 holes at the center of the gasket are only 1-3/4” apart. They are supposed to be 3-1/4” apart. 🤯

Sent an email to SLO cruiser for guidance???

SLO Cruisers got back to me right away and said they would send me one as soon as they get a new batch in.. Might be a while though due to nautical and COVID issues

The Mohair Sweep, sounds like a dance move from the 50's...
Or what your grandfather did to the back seat of his car after a productive weekend.
