I typically pop the hood and look for leaks and check the coolant level before I jump in and drive at the beginning of the day.

I've noticed that a few times, although the truck has sat overnight and is "cold" the upper radiator hose is firm and when I turn the radiator cap I get a little surge of coolant under minimal pressure. Maybe a couple bottle caps full.

My understanding is there should be no pressure when cold, and it doesn't happen all the time.
My perpetual fear of another head gasket issue is pushing me to worry about exhaust gases pushing through, but are there other - normal - reasons this may happen on occasion? It's like the thermostat is closing and trapping a little pressure in the upper hose until I turn the cap.

The overflow bottle remains at normal levels - up when hot, down when cool.

What say you?

Normal.

Roger that. I'll get a new cap as insurance and then not sweat it. Thanks much.
