It’s been a year since I pulled it out, but I cannot for the life of me get the distributor to seat all the way in.
It sounds and feels like it’s bottoming out but hasn’t even passed the O ring yet.
I’ve tried turning it and whatnot but I’m drawing a blank.
I know it’s something simple because I’m really bad at this stuff...

It does take a bit of trial and error to get the oiler slot lined up, as you have to compensate for the twist of the gear as the dizzy drops in. I'm guessing that's just it - check where the rotor is pointed when it bottoms out, and that should give you a good idea of the direction of the tang...from there, use that to set the oiler slot.

Sometimes they play nice...other times, they like to argue a bit. 😆

Your distributor won’t turn because it’s engaged in the cam. The oil pump is preventing it from going down the rest of the way. You’ll need to turn it with a big screw driver and reinstall the distributor.

Well, I did what you guys suggested and it’s better than it was but it still doesn’t sit metal to metal. Is there a gasket or anything to go in there?
Thanks for the help by the way.
I had lined them up before, but the gears rotating it before it drops all the way down threw me off.
