The two 100 series that I've been around all had broken fan shrouds. I ordered a new shroud to fix mine. My buddy with a 100 series was also broken and says many have broken shrouds.

I've been curious about why fan shrouds are broken. If this common?

Is it due to people sitting on them while working on the intake/starter etc? Ask me why I would guess as the cause.

Thanks.. That explains it.

I would say most are broken from trying to get the fan and clutch out.

Zip ties are a handy and effective fix...assuming the top shroud mounts are the only things 'broken'. Prolly 200k and many under hood services since mine was originally broken. YMMV.

Or incompetence from the service department. When I replaced my shroud and radiator during a recent TB/WP job, I noticed one of the bushings that go into the upper mounts for the radiator was missing, leaving the radiator about 3/4" uneven from side to side. Explained why the fan would hit the shroud when in off camber situations. All previous work on the truck was done by the PO at a Lexus dealership so I blame them....and just goes to show that if you want something done right, you pretty much have to do it yourself. Even something as simple as changing out a radiator apparently.

Leaning on it, being a bit aggressive removing the fan, or doing AC work are known culprits too.

I noticed the bushings bolts on each side have roughly 3/4 to an inch of up movement. The bushing bolts did not have the radiator mounted tight against the body mounts.

Is the radiator supposed to move up and down in the mounts?

I'm pretty sure you won't see any movement of the radiator if everything is properly torqued down.

Thank you. I thought I was missing something with the up movement. For the 10mm flare nuts that hold the fan clutch on the pulley, two were on finger tight.

In a dumbazz move I cracked the top of my shroud when I was replacing the motor mounts; I removed both mounts before proceeding to lift motor, which pushed the fan into the shroud. ( Pro tip: only replace one mount at a time).

Anyway you can repair by bonding the small cracks together with a soldering iron. It aint pretty but its effective.

The bottom of my fan shroud is missing/broken. (Half oval shape) Would this effect cooling temps? Just want to know if $100 replacement is worth it...

Not sure of the efficiency but I destroyed my shroud replacing my fan clutch last week. got a new one on order and will be taking it to LC specialists in Austin to replace the shroud.

All the threads on here that said I'd be able to get the fan/clutch out without removing the shroud were not what I experienced. That was a bitch to remove.

I didn't have to remove my shroud but I did have loosen it and lift it just a tad to get the fan and clutch to sneak past it.

I loosened the shroud and then put a piece of foam against the radiator fins so they wouldn't get damaged if I bumped the fan into it while removing the clutch and fan.

Ya that was fun I just did it last week too. Felt good to finally get that thing out of there.

I also think a few have cracked (including loosing a fan blade) from those high speed water crossings- - - - - - >
