Hey gang, sorry if this is another dumb question. I've noticed that from the back lookin at the landy, she has a significant lean to the right, prolly 10 degrees or so, just enuff to be annoying. Can I safely assume that the right shockie is shot? or is there some other possible causes?

Thanks in advance

Snowy

My 1987 bj70 does the same thing. 2.5" Old man emu lift and it tilts to the right. I figured it was because the 35" spare is mounted on the right side of the rear bumper. I'm thinking about swapping the rear springs and see what happens.

Sorry for the bad news. Its usually the springs that cause that. Shockies dont actually support the vehicle ,they stop the springs bouncing.

Thanks Rosco, I'm guessin these are expensive and prolly also should be changed as a pair?

As a pair ,or preferably as a whole set because the ass is going to sit up like a drag car.
Try "The 4WD Shop" 9277 8400, and ask them about the Beltons springs or any other brands they have.
They were about $180 ea for rears last time I asked.
Your going to need bushes and shackle pins also. Stick to the rubber bushes and non greasable shackle pins and shackles if your on a budget
Be wary of the big name 4wd shops as they will fleece your pocket.
There are some no name brands around that are much cheaper(about $120) and most likely from India:rolleyes:
They have Kings susp kits $650,I dont know what they are like. Maybe that is the best way.
They have an ad on page D11 in the quokka

A cheap fix maybe is to swap sides with the rear springs. The drivers side sits spring is higher when new but makes the vehicle level.
Swapping them fixes it sometimes...sometimes. Cheap if you can do it yourself, probably only the cost of the bushes and pins .

Many thanks or the info and diagnosis Rosco, realy appreciate you sharing your wisdom and experience. thanks also for the heads up with "The 4WD Shop', rang them today and they're gonna get back to me with a quote.

cheers again

Snowy

Wait just a minute, my BJ 74 leaned badly to the right, and then found out there is an A and a B side, I swapped sides and all is perfect. I dont have OME springs I have the ZEAL and all aftermarket springs have the same system ,. So try swapping them.

I just put the OME kit on my BJ73 and it leans crazy... the leafs for the DS of the truck are sprung more than the PS, ARB told me it was to account for the weight of the driver and the spare. So if installed correctly the OME kit should be taller on the right side ( DS of a RHD ) by about an inch. This is what ARB said...

I think that is retarded. I just spent good money on new suspension and to have it lean ( noticably ) really pi**es me off. I called them and had them reassure me I installed them on the correct sides, but to give it a month or so to break in. I lasted a week and said screw it, put the truck back up and swapped them from side to side. Same thing, just the opposite. So then I swapped them back, AGAIN.

I called ARB last week and said I was unhappy, and I wanted them to send me another spring. They agreed to send me another DS spring, saying that sometimes the springs just work out and sometimes they don't. Hmmmmm...

Whatever the reason behind the 2 different rear springs is I don't know. What I do know is that I would need a 44" spare and a couple girls on my lap for my truck to level out...

...but they did agree to send me another spring, same from side to side... that will make me VERY happy ( once the removal and install are completed AGAIN, of course... )

Also I found that the rear OME shocks are too short, they will bottom out before your springs can fully droop... I think I am going to take some measurements and replace them... Lame, considering they came in a purpose built " KIT "...

I'm not sure about the front shocks though, I think they were okay...

When I had my springs on the garage floor, I measured them for height and the DS was about 10-15mm higher.
Once fitted it sat level and has not altered in 4 years but I kow lot of people dont have the same experience.
It can only be put down to a lack of QC at the factory

Yeah, but overall really I am very happy with the ride on & off road...

as long as I cock my head when I look at it it's all good... ;)

I installed my springs as I was told by the place I bought them and it was wrong... a good 3/4 inch difference... and with the crown of the road it seemed more like 3 inches... I didn't have any issue with the back tho

I was thinking some of the issue maybe because of the springs being designed for RHD

honestly, I'm no expert but this is what I would have done differently if I had of known about the OME kit...

Just get the 4 springs, 4 pins, 2 rear greasable shackles and the bushing kit.

The springs are awesome, without a doubt. Obviously in some cases though you may need 2 identical rear spring packs for it to sit level, as opposed to the A & B springs the kit comes standard with. This is gay...

I like the pins and shackles supplied with the kit, nice and clean and greasable. I know many out there prefer the rubber bushings more and they may be right, but I liked the idea of being able to grease them.

As for the front shackles, I found that the rear of my truck is way higher than the front... I dont like it, I like level things ( AKA things that look good ). I am turfing my OME front shackles for some custom extended length ones, just for a LITTLE more height in the front end. I am however going to try and utilize the greasable fitting in the new shackles.

As for the shocks I have heard good and bad things about them. One thing for sure is the rear shocks are way too short for full droop. They need to be replaced. And after hearing Crushers advice and input on the OME shocks I think the better way to go would be sourcing them elsewhere ( only s*itty thing is knowing what sizes to get )...

My lift could have worked out to work better and be cheaper if I hadn't got the whole kit. The springs are the key... if you have the time and energy just get the springs and customize for your liking...

the kit is overrated and overpriced... the ride is sweet though...

It's funny tho... when I went and got a leaf added in to my OME pack, the guy at the spring shop told me a lot of these kits have leafs that are much much to hard making them brittle and prouned to cracking...

I told him I had read a lot of reviews and that these were made for use in australia so they should stand up for years and years.... I don't think I really changed his mind, but a year later everything is still fine...

As for the cost of the kit tho, military wraped springs alone cost ALOT!!!! I wouldn't say it's really a deal, and I do feel for you as I also went though the same s***... If the kit were a clean level install it would be a different story... I started wondering myself if it were frame issues, but after inspection I realized it was nothing but the one leaf pack I was sent...

cheers

as for individual spring price they are not expensive... I'm not sure exactly how much per spring I was quoted by National 4WD, but I remember thinking " damn thats cheap "...

I agree with you about the cracking etc., I've never heard of any failing... I would expect the OME springs to be at least as strong as the competitors... anyone have any horror stories???

Eric, did you also request a matching spring from ARB for the rear?

I did, just gotta wait my 4 weeks now! But it will be damn worth it!

So did you put the driver side spring on the drivers side?

ummmmm... yeah.
