Why a JDM?

Parts are not that bad, if you do a little prework, or rely on this forum. Ateb seems to be able to get hold of just about anything on the new end, and G&S can help you with used parts. It seems to be getting better as more and more of these trucks come in. So in summary, parts are not a big deal at all.

You've fairly well described my means of keeping my JDM in tip top condition. However I've been able to manage because I have a fair number of friends, internet access and a fair amount of free time. That's not always the case especially for those working on careers.

Yeah you got that right Kalawang! I've been debating this whole thing myself. If I had known before what I know now....well, I'm not 100% sure I would have picked up this truck. But once it's all up to snuff, I'm anticipating few if any surprises, and I do really like the thing. But I've had to rely on friends / sig other for rides while I get it all sorted out. I have one more big list, after that, I hope it's all good!!!
 
Just thought I'd update myself. Now with this latest problem (rough, and I mean ROUGH, idle = ACSD / thermowax, we think), which so far I've been unable to solve....well, it's frustrating. But these are such unique and fun to drive trucks, and I can't bring myself to consider making a change....I must be nuts.
 
I've been able to keep my Canadian BJ60 in decent shape (I get comments about the condition of my truck all the time). My hope with the flood of JDM's is that perhaps Toyota Canada will finally give us what we want so that when I can no longer keep my truck going, a Canadian alternative will be available. If it isn't then I may join the JDM owners or better yet buy new out of Central America where LHD diesel 'Cruisers are available!
 
Why stop with 3?

When I moved up to Moberly Lake in NE BC (W of Dawson Creek and SW Fort St. John) I figured that if I ever wanted to see Bruce I better invest in a rig that would be able to conquer the 12hr commute back to Calgary in the winter. I figured that my daily driver at the time (76 FJ40) would be too expensive and too slow for my needs. At the time, my parental units figured that I already had 3 lemons and needed to instead, buy a Jeep to join their hoard. Not wanting to deal with depreciation and inflated sticker prices, I shopped around. The most suitable rig available to me at the time was my BJ73. With 83,000km, a diesel engine and a reasonable price, it soon was mine.

Suited the need. Still does...

138,000km. 2 1/4 years later.
