I have bee thinking about putting white-walled tires on the 60 for a while now, mainly for fun but I actually think it wouldn't look half bad. There are several videos on YouTube about it, it only involves sanding off some rubber. What are your thoughts about it? I think they should make a come back!

why not! I say go for it.

I remember back in the late 70's my Dad had a 4x4 International Travelall. He would put the wide-white whitewall tires which were the style back then. I always thought they looked better on cars than on 4x4's but do what puts a smile on your face. Cant those be purchased anymore versus grinding the tire? I would think that grinding would leave a porous surface versus smooth and it would pick up a lot of grime and dirt. A smooth whitewall is crucial to keeping it clean and looing the part.

You're exactly right, although I have a feeling no one sells 32" BFG all-terrain white-walls...

I agree, go with the period correct look - mine with old school aluminum wheels and BFG white letters :grinpimp:>

If you do the whitewalls, please post up a picture. Thanks

Got to say white walls and the raised white letters belong on vans not cruisers. But for each his own.

Do it

This isn't whitewalls, but in other parts of the world you see this look sometimes

I still have my precautions concerning safety and if the tire will look decent when finished, I'm going to attempt to make a photoshop rendering later today, I'll post pics when finished.

That blue one is my dream cruiser appearance wise

I agree it is personal taste. Also I believe when (age) and where (what part of the world) you grew up is a factor too.

Has anyone under 25 years old in the US ever been exposed to white letters or whitewalls as factory standard eqipment? I rememeber growing up in the 70's and80's when blackwalls were hard to find and were considered "plain" or "ugly" due to the tastes of the times.

It was also when it was ok (I remember this from a flight I was on when I was baout 7 years old) to have everyone smoking on airline flights also . nothing says air safety more than an open flames and cocktails flowing!

Hey Murf what platform are you running on top of your Yakima?

TIA

I'm sixteen and almost all of my family's cars have had white lettering on the tires along with my 60, I personally think it's a great look.

Mac, it is actually is some metal grid wall with the ends turned up. Painted it black and secured down to the Yakima bars. low wind profile keeps it quiet and great with bungie cords to hold stuff down. inexpensive too!
