Several cracks in the head off of my 3b, 1981 BJ60 so I am looking for a replacement.
Part # off my head is 11111-58010.
Part # off the block is 11411-58010, SN 0424433

I initially assumed that I need the 11101-58014 head (only looking at the last string of numbers). Valves are 41 and 46mm and so would be the 'large valve' version. Still think this is correct, but hoping to confirm.

I then noticed the discrepancy in the first string of numbers, and some googling shows nothing but one Russian website. I then googled 11111-58014 and get listings for heads for Delta for Daihatsu 3b engines.

Looks like PO took a head off a Diahatsu and put it on my cruiser? Can anyone comment on fitment?
Thanks

I like those prices! Not sure about shipping to Canada Eh?
But now Im even more confused on part #'s
@lostmarbles Tom this seems right up your alley.... Any comments?

I think I need this one
Cylinder Head 3B Large valve 08/1980-06/1988 [11101-59096 / 11101-58013] - $999.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

Not
Cylinder Head B, 2B & 3B small valve 1974-1984 [11101-59105 / 11101-59106] - $999.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts
Or this

Cylinder Head 3B 2 Large valve 07/1988 Later 3B 2 [11101-56050] - $999.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

And I dont see the PN on the ausi site referenced on these links at all. Maybe different #'s for different markets?

The part numbers cast into heads and blocks can be confusing and usually (strangely enough) don't agree with the actual Toyota EPC part numbers.

From the EPC, I see a 1981 BJ60 as having 11101-59095 SUBS 11101-59096. And I think @beno would probably be the best person to say what 59096 equates to now. (From your links above I see that according to Cruiserparts.net it is apparently 11101-58014 after a lot of further substitutions)

I can't really comment further except to say, if considering buying from Engine Australia I'd get them to work out which of their new heads is correct your engine and to tell you if any changes are needed (such as a different rocker cover or different manifolds) in order to fit it.

Hmm that's a bit of a stumper 1981 bj60 had two different heads 08 1980 - 09 1981 and 10 1981- 09 1983 what is the production date on your VIN this may help narrow it down assuming you have the original block ( you commented the previous owner may have used a Diahatsu head meaning the block should be original).
Head gasket lists the same number for both year range so I would assume the head is the same configuration for both heads but I can't tell the difference the one thing in the back of my mind is the rocker bolt count but not certain.

3Bs where used in several applications so it would not be uncommon the head was from a Diahastu if it was replaced previously.

If the listing at cruiserparts is correct, I am sure I need the 11101-58014 version. Valve cover has 4 bolts in center of cover, not on the perimeter, and valves are 41mm and 46mm (large)

Anyone know a canadian source for 3b heads? I have tried ebi and couple others around.... so far nothing used or new. NLA from toyota it appears.
Im looking at these now, as cruiserparts seems too $$$ + duty + freight. Cant seem to find another reasonable source.

Anyone tried one of these Chinese versions?

Well, I may just try a chinese head off aliexpress! Wish me luck!

Let you know how it goes.

You could well be dealing with the same company that supplies "the recognised suppliers" and just cutting out the middle-man. (I doubt, even in China/Taiwan, that there are more than one or two companies tooled up to make these heads.)

Good luck and I'm keen to see how it works out for you.

PS. In days gone by, it was easier for companies to rip off individuals because they knew an individual could do them little harm in return. But now with the Internet and sites like ih8mud, an individual can warn others of a bad experience so companies generally know now that they have to consider individuals with more respect. (And the flipside is that individuals can also create additional sales through praise of a product of course.)

This was my thought at the end of the day too. Anything OEM is NLA and everything else was 'high quality' foreign import. Might as well go straight to the source! Some of the goods coming out of china are of very high quality and precision. I think aliexpress is basically a chinese ebay or amazon and incorporates some insurance of quality and service as the stores reputation depends on its customers ratings.

For reference I bought this one.

Wasn't the cheapest, but after looking at about 10 listings (looks to be 3 or maybe 4 different castings) on aliexpress I settled here. Only real differences I could see from pics (if they are even a good representation of the actual goods) was surface grinding detail (how deep into the casting webs the grind cleaned up) and paint.

They shipped me the wrong head! I specifically detailed the 41mm exhaust valve and got the 37mm or so :bang:

Not sure what/if anything they are going to do to correct this. I will hopefully hear back soon.

Being turbo'd I really want the larger exhaust valve!

Couple more pics

Couple more criticism's... all the ground edges are very sharp and small burrs on most. Threads are also very sharp with burs. There is a ratteling piece of metal in the coolant line (falls out with some shaking and turning). And bits of styrofoam everywhere!
All easily fixable, except the damn exhaust valve!.

Looks good .... but getting the smaller exhaust port sizing is an annoyance..

Hope it gets sorted to your satisfaction...

Thanks for posting up, I've been going through a similar thing getting quotes off alibaba suppliers. Oddly enough, most of them also are around us$420 shipped to Aus. I figure the same as you, all the heads probably come from china. None of the alibaba suppliers seem to care about their listed minimum order quantities. I was looking to order later this week.

I had just assumed they were all selling the later large valve head as that's what the part numbers are for, certainly good to know that's not the case!

Please keep us posted!

The pic of the gasket sitting on the head is the water journal actually that far off or is that just the camera angle.
Also the 1st pic of the valves set in the head did they come with the new head.

Yes, the 4 holes (3 of them 'D' shaped) are out by about 2mm, almost 1mm under the edge of the head gasket.

Valves are my old ones.

Not sure if I am going to make any progress with china. I am reassured that this 2mm 'is fine, work ok'.
I have my doubts that this will seal very well even though these specific coolant lines are blocked at the head (cylinder mark # is stamped here). Not sure why these holes even exist. Supplier also recommended a valve seat reamer to fix the mismatched valve size (4mm diameter). HA!

Overall I must admit I am completely disappointed.

Potentially I could either get small exhaust valves or preferred to bore out the existing valve seats to take my 41mm valves (assuming there is enough metal in the head). This is all assuming the HG will actually seal.

Have you gone any further with this? If we can find a good supplier lets thank them with lots of business!

A quick update..... My supplier in china is apparently finding the head I need from another factory in china. We havent talked about any additional costs yet but I am hoping for none (dreaming here I think). Communication is by far the most difficult aspect of this process for me. We have about 10 pages of messages and pictures back and forth, day by day due to time change one question one answer. Often the answer is way off the question due to translation issues but I think they are accepting the fact finally that I specified 41mm exhaust valves and this was not shipped. I hope they get the coolant ports lined up this time as well!

Good to hear your supplier has come around.

With communication, I've found it varies wildly. Looking for a head for another car some were like, "yes sir this will fit your car" without even knowing what my car is. One took in depth photos and measurements for me (it was a Chinese redesign of that motor). Most take minutes to reply (I'm in the same time zone), others take days.

I've sent off a ton of messages today asking about exhaust valve sizes. I got one reply.

hi

Thanks for your reply.

The 3B cylinder head for Toyota Dyna3B(OLD) ,The valve is 102mm,3413cc.

Wooo 102mm exhaust valves! :bounce:

FWIW a few months ago Cylinder Heads Australia had the 3B heads for AU$325+gst. I should have bought one then! I emailed them asking if they would do them for the old price and they said "Sorry no stock" and haven't replied to my messages since.

I've also messaged Engines Australia, a fellow on here (can't find the thread now) got a good looking B head from them for a good price.

well, 41mm exhaust valves seem non existent in China so far..... Not sure why this is becoming an oddball head to replace.
Can anyone coment on interchangability of 3b old and new heads?
I may be able to pick up a complete 1986 3B for reasonable price in plans to rob the head to put on my 1981 3b bottom end.
Would this work?

Another update. China does not seem to know of a 41mm exhaust valve version for these 3b's. Thankfully, due to the water ports be misaligned, I started calling the head defective and another week of arguing I am receiving 328USD back and do not have to return the head.

So this chunk of scrap cast iron I have here cost me 100USD! EEK. At least I can pull the combustion chambers and valve guide bushings to reuse (as long at they are dimensionally compatible...) so I am ok with this result. Glad to get to a decent resolution.

And I bought that 86 complete 3b engine as the price was right. Should pick it up on Saturday.

I sure hope I can mash my rebuilt 81 bottom end and this new to me 86 head/valve cover etc.
