Gents,

KIndly help me out in identifying which is the correct tubing / piping at the fuel tank of my 1978 fj40. It looks like my mechanic wrongly picked the tubing meant for the fuel feed line. Because when we were road testing the rig, i noticed that consumption is unbelievable. Please help. Picture of the tank and piping will help. My fuel tank is under passenger's seat.

TIA

Regards,

gado

Based on what?

How would plumbing effect mileage unless it was leaking, in which case, you would see this size of fuel leak.....

What is the rest of the story?

X2. tubing size won't affect the consumption if you are running a stock fuel pump and a carb sized appropriate for the engine. Sometimes on V-8's if you have a high pressure fuel supply and a very large carb you can put way too much fuel into the engine but then you would end up washing the cylinders and causing severe galling on the cylinder walls. You would smell a strong gas smell in the oil. As for the 40, that wont happen with a stock or near stock setup. Maybe she's just a gas guzzling pig like mine!

I think they they have a diagram with all of the fittings at the tank labeled as to what they are. At least they used to have. Do a search for gas tank.
