I'm thinking about wheels... Don't have tires yet- so I can choose any wheels that fit. 6 lug, 3.5" backspacing, 15", 16" or 17". I know they range in price from ~$120 for Eatons to ~$345 for Walker Evans aluminum. I kind of like the Allied Rock a Thons, heard good things about their strength and construction. Looking for input, horror stories, endorsements, etc. I'd be open to getting a set of used wheels as long as they aren't too trashed. Tried to get Woodys Allieds, but couldn't come up with the money when they were available. Thanks, Luke

Yo no se, Luke, pero you need to post some pics of your junk. I'd like to come see your Cruisers next time I'm in Middlebury.

They are muy feo- but you're welcome to see them. Just call when you're here to see Martins. Both the house and the business are in the phone book. Later, Luke

www.ChampionWheel.com Milan makes some killer wheels. Automatically centers the tire to the wheel. Knurled ring and counter bored 10° holes so the bolt heads sit flat when tightened down. The Allied is a good wheel but I have seen a lot of bolt heads part ways with the wheel just from the two people I know runnung them.

I wonder how Hummer wheels woul work if you could get some with custom BS. I know they can be found super cheap; less the 70 a wheel at some places.
Just a thought.

but they're 8 lug... I need 6 lug. Luke

I thrashed a set of Allieds for 2 years with zero complaints....did finally dent a ring, but whatta ya expect on a double barrel roll.....I never once lost a bolt and they held air VERY well.

Now have a set of "temprorary" Allied 17's for my IROKS, since TrailReady's are on backorder....the TR's will be steel with the alum ring. May just put those on my PitBulls when they arrive.....

Maybe on the second time around I could come up with the money faster.... that is if you're selling your "temporary" Allieds. :))

the Allieds AND the IROK's are temporary.....39.5's on 17" steelies.....3.5" BS

I don't know if I deserve a second shot at "dibs"- but if I do, I call it. Let me know when you're selling please. thanks, Luke

recentered hummer rims can be any lug pattern you want ;)

Hummers sound like a great idea, till your stuck with a wheel that weighs 100lb, only 16.5 tires to choose from and they cost more then a steel bead lock by the time you get them recentered and get a rock ring on to protect the bolts, and get the inner lock bought. Ask me how I know.
LG

Depends on how much you get them for and how much you spend on everything else.

My recentered hummer rims cost about $100 a piece in the end.

HOWEVER, they weigh quite a bit, that is a fact..

I agree, if your time is worth 0.00. I do this for a living so even when I do stuff for me I know what it costs. I was given these rims, and if I payed me 10$ an hour to do the work, it still woulda been cheaper to buy some. You live and you learn, the weight is my least favorite part. They are not on my rig, but I built mine and it was alot cheaper and lighter with a conventional rim and bead lock.

I never count my time when figuring out how much I have spent on something ;)

They do weigh a lot. And I would rather have lighter rims.
But this was too easy and cheap for me in the end.

I also do not see a 16.5" rim as an issue. There are LOTS of tires out there for 16.5 more for that then most of the 17" or larger in fact.

and BTW, your recentered rims look better than mine. Mine are ugly ;)

dragging back up....additional BL opinions wanted...

My temp Allieds are nice, and look sharp with the 39.5 IROK's....however I was really hopin for the added bling of the alum ring on the Trail Readys...

however, TR still hasn't come up with a supplier for the 17" shells/centers, so they are backordered....since Jan...bastids....

waiting is getting old, so I'm looking at other options.....

tho, the PB tires aren't here anyways, so not sure whay my rush is...lol

Actually, I should pull a ring off the truck tonite and see about getting a set of alum rings custom made for it...

6061 or 7075...anyone??

I run h1 rims and the ONLY benefit to them I see is the double savings of bringing the cheaper dually width axles down to more managable dimensions at a reasonable cost with a beadlock system.

They are ugly and damn heavy, but cheap - I only have $225 in all 5 of mine and didn't have to rework my axles.

If I had the dough to narrow my axle (or replace with 9" hybrids) and buy regular beadlocks I would in a heartbeat.

Is anyone running MRW wheels.

http://www.mrt-wheels.com/catpages/page09.html

custom b/s

136 a wheel w/ beadlock
45 for beadlock kit

Go to www.mrt-wheels.com and then click on the rock crawling link to get to the heavy duty wheels. The ones in the link above are for circle track and are made especially to be lightweight. Possibly not strong enough for heavy truck use. Also too few bolts to secure the bead adequately. Just my initial reaction. Luke

Actually they are strong enough if you only drive on the street ;)

It is all about being a cheap bastard..
My favorite Nolen quote on Ed
"SOB is so cheap he stops on the freeway and picks up bungy cords" :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
