Could anyone here tell me where to find the much talked about but rarely seen steering slide-yolk grease fitting on an '87 60? I've looked for it several times, but it would help to have a clue more exactly where to look. Thanks in advance. -Keith B.-

Man am I glad you brought that up, I was about to post that one myself. It shows in my owners manual where it is and just like you I've searched high and low and could not find that thing. A great Q..... does anybody know?

I could be dreaming but I thought I read on here that the zirk was only on earlier 60's (maybe 85 and older). I've looked everywhere on my 87, and can't find a zirk.

Wow...a real mystery! By pure coincidence, I'll be seeing a FJ 60 expert later this morning. If I find out anything, I'll post it up.

The zirk is under the metal sheild.

Looked there on mine, and no zirky. Of course my wife says I have male pattern blindness...

The expert guy said he's never seen it, incuding on dozens of 60's he's dismantled. Maybe it's an early feature that was discontinued but left in the FSM's and owner's manuals; I dunno.

There is no steering shaft grease fitting for 60's manufactured after the fall of '85. This design change carried over into the 62's.

One of these days, I'll look into adding one and post the results.

The zirk under the metal shield, by the steering box, is for the steering shaft 'u-joint'

If your referring to a grease fitting on the female side of the splined shaft connected to the u-joint on the steering box then mine is there plain as day. Of course I don't know what year my box/shaft is because it's on my 40.

But it does exist...

That explains why I can't find mine, mine is Mar. 86'
