I don’t see very many people here running the stock chrome rims. Ever since I first saw a lifted kitted out 100 series with chrome rims years ago, I always loved them. Seems like most people ditch them or black them out first thing. Who else here still loves their chrome rims?

Nice looking truck, @TTCruiser. Can you tell me about your LXstyle bumber trailer hitch? Did you mod it?
Thank you.
Yes I had to modify the crossmember to make it work. The hitch is from a 2003-2005 land cruiser I believe. I bought it in hopes that I could just cut out the center section of the crossmember and use the factory bolt holes, but they do not line up with the hitch. So I welded it all around to the crossmember. There are some pictures in my build thread in post #25 if you want to see.

I never saw many 100s with chromes. It wasn't a Toyota / Lexus thing. Dealers chrome wheels as an option. They look nice on some vehicles. They are kind of a mess waiting to happen though, can't repair chrome wheels, if tires are filled with wet air it can cause bead seat to rust and leak.

I've thought about chrome lately for my 98 golden pearl LX. I find that color hard to match to wheels because it really has a LOT of warmth (golden) to the pearl. Aluminum rims really 'pop' to me in a bad way like mixing matte silver and gold. Even a gunmetal without any warmth may still clash a little like gray and gold. A lot of bronzes are too much for me especially if they're at all bright, and black is always an option but kind of strong and still one dimensional compared to the blend of the golden pearl.

My ideal would be a really dirty black like a mix between very dark bronze and black. Bun absent that, I think the chrome might actually work the best and be one of the few times chrome would sort of blend in to the overall look like in that first pic.

My other thought is wrapping the truck, but that's another can of worms.

Stocks are aluminum, not chrome-right? Don't own a 100 but count me as a black wheel hater. They're bad with any body color, especially bad with some. Anything is better but stocks are best.

Chrome was a dealer option I guess. Mine are chrome plated. So stock from Toyota would be aluminum.

I thought I’d seen a window sticker with chrome wheels as a factory option. I’ve got chromes on my LX. I’ll get a pic up here eventually. Mudders do seem to hate on them, but I think they look excellent on my 01. There’s already enough chrome on the truck (grille, headlights, trim all around) that I think it actually suits it.
