Anyone have a line on a BJ40 starter? Have '78 BJ40 in Costa Rica and can't seem to find a starter for it. Have a friend coming down from the States that can bring it if I can find one. I know FJ40 starters are easy to come by but this is for a diesel and is proving harder.

Thanks for any help!

Can't you rebuild the old one I just had one rebuilt for $160

the starter was passed around until it disappeared, so unfortunately rebuilding it isn't an option.

Purdy Motors in San Jose, C.R. has them, you just have to make them understand that they DO HAVE THEM.
You need to go or call the Toyota City Branch. 2519-7777 and their address is 200 meters east of PoZuelo, Uruca.

SOR in California has them too.

I am drawing a blank right but there are a few places in San Jose that rebuild starters and I am sure they can find one for you. Do you know your way around San Jose?

Posting in the Diesel & 24 Volt section may help. Good luck.

You can probably get on from Steve at EBI, Port Moody, B.C. or G&S Cruiserparts, also in B.C., Canada.

I needed one for a 3B and I did not have a complete starter ,so I gave what I had to my friend who has few parts for diesel cruisers and paid him $90 and this is what he deliverd , completely rebuilt.

I don't think that is helping or making the OP feel any better unless you are selling it for $90.
