:popcorn:something i've thought about since i keep mine in the back, bungeed it behind the front bumper for a while. figured some of you would have some briliantly clever ideas on stashing these annoying and necessary pieces of equipement.
thanks

Hi All:

An excellent question! :hmm: I've been pondering this recently as well.

Not to hijack, simply to add, I have to ask: not only where and how to store it safely, but how to keep it protected from the elements (weather/dust/etc.) and thieves?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Alan

Is that the small hi-lift?
I have the 60 inch one and it barely fits diagonally in my FJ40.
If you still have a tire rack, you should get a hi-lift holder for it.
Mine is from kaymar. As for the security, it has a pad lock to keep it safe.

How is the jack holder secured to the tire holder? Unless something is hidden in their photo, couldn't you just unbolt it?

I have gorrilla locking nuts. Its a gamble i'm willing to take.

I first mounted mine to the back of the truck using four of 1/2" bolts and two of those 2" long 1/2" nuts you can buy (yeah there is a special name for them). One bolt holds each of the nuts to the sheet metal / cross-member and one bolt through two different holes into the nuts. Cheap and available at any decent hardware store. Just pick where you want to bolt it down (maybe add a couple of fender washers if your tub isn't also made of 1/8" steel) and drill a couple of holes. It comes off easily with my star lug wrench.

When I made a custom spare tire rack I welded on a couple of 1/2" nuts instead of having them bolted on.

In the garage, so I don't hurt myself :)

These look cool and all, but the first time (depending on how hi or low you mount it) you take a steep ascent, or hit a low tree, your hi-lift will be toast..

Hi All:

"Kroll," thanks for the pic!

But, I'm not sure I want all that weight hanging of the rear spare tire carrier. also, the jack is exposed to deust, mud, water, and so on in the spot.

Regards,

Alan

Hi All:

"Amaurer," thanks for the pic!

However, that sort of HiLift won't work where I live/wheel.

The trails up here are very tight. That jack would get ripped-off of a truck in no time flat because of trees, and so on!

Alan

if you have room on your roll bar/cage you can do what i did. i got two 2 1/2" exhaust clamps from autozone for like 2 buck a pop and then welded a half inch bolt to the flat side of the clamp. that way i can secure the hi-lift wherever i need it on the cage.

this is the best picture i have of it but i can get better ones if anyone wants.
