Where can I get a 1996 Lexus LX 450 repair manual (field service manual)? After reading about everyone doing their own repairs, I want to take a look at the manual and try doing a few simple tasks for starters.

    Thanks.

BigGunna, guess if you waited for my post it would be too late, but hopefully you got that set at Sears. If not, no worries, it's on sale almost every month. It's a nice set and is the one I have.

Didn't buy it cause I wasn't sure. Now that I know, I'll look for it to be on sale again.

    Thanks.

I looked at this set a couple of weeks ago. Could of had it for $82 bucks as part of the Craftsman club sale, but passed on it. If you didn't, I'd pull it out and take a good look at it. Some of the reasons I passed, the side-to-side wheel base seemed quite a bit tighter than typical, the jack bar was about three foot long, the head was awfully small looking, and the general construction had a cheap feel to it.

Just my 2 cents. If Junk's got it and says it's good, then maybe I was a little over critical. It just didn't seem very Craftsman-esque to me. But for $82 bucks it was hard to pass on. The jack stands are also a little small for these rigs IMHO.

The manual is great to have, much more indepth than any other I have seen. For example my brother's Rover manual will not list how to test several items, because it is determined to be a non-user repairable item, so you have to replace it, the Toy one shows all kinds of nifty stuff...That said, I have scaned the starter contacts pages from my '97 LX450 manual, they are online if you want to take a look...

I'd still get the manual if you have a chance, but hopefully this will help.

Rookie2, Yeah, that's the set I have. I think it's good for the price and decent enough that it's pretty solid to use on our rigs. Getting something bigger wouldn't be bad, but I have 2 sets of those stands plus the jack and think it's pretty decent.

Of course, that said, I use my air/bottle jack frequentl :D
