on the way to the trail ride Sunday, I heard on whine when I stopped the rear wheels locked. With clutch engaged still locked. Remove diff cover and everthing looked normal. Disconnected the drive shaft and rear wheels moved.

Would it be the clutch, transfer case or tranny?
Can you tell without dropping the tranny and if so how?
Any suggestions would help where to start.

Needless to say did not make the run.

transfer case

Drained tranny, fluids clear of debris.

Open transfer case and the gears are toast.
They are stuck and smell like smoke.

Hopefully this did not cause any damage to the tranny.
Can you drop the transfer case without removing the whole tranny?

Yes, you can but I pulled the trany later . It was easier to mate the two off the vehicle, then reinstall.

How hard was it.
Never done this, any tips. So far I am having trouble getting the cross brace screws to loosen. I don't think that the TC will come out unless I am able to get them off.
