Ok I've asked my Toyota parts store and they said they're not available, so I ordered them from NAPA. Dorman wheel studs, they are about 3/8 of an inch shorter than OEM so I took them back. Then I ordered some different one's from Rockauto. They were the same. When I finally got them set in they just don't look like they're even close to long enough. I know this has been discussed quite a bit but does anyone have a definite answer where I can get some OEM wheel studs or an aftermarket that is made to the same specs? Or has anyone used these shorter studs and been problem free? It scares me to think about using them.

Front or rear? You might try a different dealer. I find it hard to believe they are not available. Also, there is a longer stud available for the rear. 90942-02079.

Front. But they do have the same number of threads as the ones on the right in your pic. Looks the same. I'll check with another dealership in the mean time I'm gonna open it back back up and set these studs in again maybe I had something wrong or they hadn't pulled through totally due to me not putting enough torque on the lugs.

Hi All:

Do some searching here on MUD, others have been through this.

I have used the Dorman-brand replacement front wheel studs, and although slightly shorter than OE they work just fine.

IIRC one of the 4wd mini-truck shops (Marlin Crawler? All Pro Off Road??) sells replacement front studs that are longer than the OE length.

Good luck!

Alan

Sounds like you have a lazy dealer. I am pretty sure they are available, but he doesn't have them in stock, and he is too cheap to order them in for you. His markup will probably be less than a buck. Change dealers. John

Thanks for the input. I think I have it figured out, thanks to a couple MUD buddies. And yes I might be looking into a secondary dealership to check for parts. Hopefully third times a charm. Seems to be the ongoing theme for me and my 62. Oh well it's worth it.

Toyota still has them, for sure. I just bought a whole set for my front end today from my dealer here in NC.

Found a non OEM...Raybestos part number 27729B..they are on Rockauto. Do a part number search and it will show up. $1.62 ea Also found a place in Slaton that is a Raybestos dealer,,should be able to get them for you..give me a call for phone number. Maybe we can take a ride next week after I get my Thollhole carb on. Cya :steer:

I was able to pick them up from autozone

The trick seems to be to tell them it's an '82, and you'll get the longer studs. That worked for my 1985 a couple weeks ago. :)

Thats what I was thinking. EWTexas brought that up. That was my problem. Order placed today!

What I recall is that the older models used a different front wheel hub / rotor design. I've no idea that the earlier studs will work properly in the later design. I looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked and looked through the various wheel stud catalogs that my local real parts house had, and there are NO matches to the OE stud's design. None. Does not exist. I had the person on the phone at Dorman confirm that by looking for me, there is no other wheel stud like the later Mini/FJ60 front wheel stud.

It's ironic that when I tried to get enough interested parties to have ARP build us some longer wheel studs that I got a lot of yawns and only a little interest, but these "longer studs" threads continue to pop up. https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/278894-longer-wheel-studs.html

ARP will make them. For 48 of them it was estimated to be about $900-$1000.

I think that says it all. I think that "yawn" was more like a "holy sh!t."

That's for 48 of them. Four trucks worth. Most of that cost is tooling up to make them. If there were 10-15 trucks worth in the order then the per set price could be significantly lower. I'm not in a position to be able to have ~200 of them made on speculation that I might eventually sell all of them.

Dorman already makes the slightly shorter stud. Published in the other thread is their CS phone number. Call them and ask for a longer version. I was told that if they got enough requests for them that they would make a longer version.
