It seems like I saw something for a company in Ft. Worth that you send your wheel to and they recover it to look original. I'll see if I can dig something up.

I'm working on a full DIY leather recover post over the next week or so--if all goes well i will chronicle with pictures and step by step. Leather replaces the original which you will have to remove. Looks like cost with shipping is about $60--your labor/time to install and takes about 6-8 hours.

Was it this one you were thinking of?

I haven't used them, but I've thought about it. Not cheap, but I've heard they're good.

yeah, i think that's it. thanks.

high quality product .. I bought mine direct from Wheelskin ..

1.5 hours of labor .. and you are done.

Wheelskin will send you an extra thread and needle at no cost. Just gotta call them up and tell them the color, and your addy.

BTW, there's a company that makes replacement steering wheel covers for Toyotas and other makes. I saw it in a post over at yotatech.com a while back.
You might want to do a search over there.

Ooohh... good option.

The 4 runner guys did a group buy of these for $68 delivered two years ago? Wow...

We should do that. We should also include the shifter wrap. My shifter wrap is toast.

How much interest is out there for a pre-sewn kit with steering wheel and matching shifter wrap (instead of the black)?

The pics on the yota tech site for the 4 runner ones are VERY nice.

Alan Gun quoted me a price of 49.00 plus $6 s&h for non pre-sewn. I was going to order presewn but he stated that was for 98 and later (100 series). He also told me that the DIY shift kit is $35 but very difficult to do. They will do it for $75. I will let you know how the install goes. He may also give a discount for a group buy. Oh yes...my leather is oak color.

Wheelskins rock......................

that is all.........

FWIW I have the grey wheel skins and it matches my '96 grey interior almost perfectly

Don't use that Alan Gunn Leather from florida. That fawker is a shady operater with nothing but excuses. He still owes me money or product- total ripoff. Plus his crap is sub-par quality. If you want headaches, than go for it.

Scratch Alan Gunn off my list...
Thanks for the info!

I guess there is no reason to consider this guy any longer:D You always seem to have a great eye for detail, so I can believe I would not like the quality either.

I think I've posted it before in another "leather wheel" thread, check around at your local upolstery shops, they may be able to do it. I have had it done in another car before by a local shop and the job was top notch and cheap by comparison. I always try to support someone local for any kind of service before looking elsewhere (unless the cost is way out of line) and have more often then not, been very happy that I did. If I can find someone here that I like, I will post up and let everyone know.

I ordered a leather steering wheel kit this past Tuesday and he shipped it on Friday. I will install it next weekend when I have time and see how well it turns out.

I found Alan to be extremely responsive via email. Everytime I sent him an email he would reply back in a short period of time...some times within hours.

What does he owe you specifically? Try to send him an email and see if that helps.

I called the guy a bunch of times and all I got were excuses. The guy talks like a used car salesman.

He owes me my money back. He sent crap merch. twice (that took alot of work on my side to get), I demanded refund and returned both items to him. He never paid me to this day. Oh, he had no trouble charging my CC immediately tho...
ALL THE TROUBLE WAS NOT WORTH IT!

I started to deal with American Stitches- they seemed like the real deal but could not get a 96 vintage 80 series steering wheel as a loaner... but positive experience nonetheless. It sounds expensive until you went thru what I did w/ Alan Gunn... then it sounds a-ok.

I gave up on this for now. My wheel is not that bad but the only choices I found that were reputable were Wheelskins & American Stitches.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I told Alan I would closely scrutinize the quality of his product and if favorable, I would provide a quality post on this site.

However, if I receive the same quality that you did...different story. I was upfront with him on this and sent multiple emails to document it.

If you guys didn't know, you can dispute charges on your credit card if you're not happy with the service/product. You have 2 years to dispute charges. The cc company seems to be on the comsumer's side regardless what the amount of charge.
