    I've read conflicting reports.

Consumer Reports says not good. Can cause withdrawal symptoms later.

Also mixed with Ibuprofen is not good either.

I used to take one daily, but I cut back.

    :D

St Josephs approves....... I just wonder where the 81mg dosage recommendation came from. Why not just 80 nice round number - why 81????

Low dose 375mg I think. I'm all for it. My mom thinks all the asprin my dad took for headaches kept him alive longer after his first heart attack.

Men and women over 50 with one or more or two or more (respectively) risk factors for heart disease or family history of colon cancer but not with a history of serious GI bleeding.

Low dose is 81mg. The 325 is the normal pill size. The 81mg comes from being 1/4 of the normal dose and was originally produced for children (by St. Joseph's). [81.25mg to be precise]

The thinking is that 81mg, while still asprin, won't be as caustic in the GI, while at the same time providing the anticoagulation needed. The dose for relieving a headache is way more than what's needed to prevent clotting.

Macneill, consult your doctor. Dosage will vary depending on your physician or/and most important - physical history and exam. Due to liability purposes, I will not give numbers. High dosages are usually reserve for persons with a history of heart disease/procedures (heart attack, cardiac cath, valve replacement etc). The low dose (the commnon St Joe aspirin commercial) are usually for prevention of a likelihood of a first heart attack. Do not take high dosages daily or extended period (brentbbas post) without the OK of your doctor - will increase clotting time = possibly bleed to death. There are foods that might interact and increase this clotting time also. I am not a doctor. Even if one is a Dr, they cannot diagnose online. Make an appointment.

Working towards those "gallon pins"? :)

I could never get used to the feeling of the cold plasma getting pumped back in.

Got tired of getting gallon pins, several of them. Started giving platlets about a year ago. Much greater time commitment. You can give every two weeks, actually you can every three days, but Red Cross schedules every two weeks. Take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours total time vs about 20 minutes for whole blood. Upside is you get to watch movies while donating!!! My local Red Cross has LCD/Plasma TV screens mounted at the end of each bed and some very nice stereo headphones all hooked up to a VCR/DVD player. Time passes quickly. Small downside is that you've got a needle in each arm for about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours.

Hey, macneill, you might be out of luck--I don't think they make 81 mg. in suppository form. :flipoff2:

I really am pretty bad at it. An electric just won't cut my whiskers unless I keep it plugged in, and a regular razor just seems to get worse and worse over time, no matter how broken-in it gets.
