I have about 2" lift on my truck. I just installed caster adjustment bushings and during the instal i noticed the drive shaft resting on the sway bar with the front axle unsupported. So surprisingly i figure i need front sway bar blocks to make room for the drive shaft. Now for the rear, What will hit or be "wrong" if i dont extend the rear? I guess i am asking how do i know if i need the rear drop bracket also? What should i look for or what will "bind" at full drop that will tell me i need the rear brackets?

The rear will just be at poor angle and over stressed at end link when flexed.

thanks. The reason i ask is because i am surprised that for the little lift i have that i need the front. Not sure i really need the rear. I only have 861/862 with 40mm spaces. Should be about 50mm total which is less than 2".

Just flex out the rear and check out the links. You can see/feel when they are too stressed. So lift and mods...... will be wheeling this yr? Join yankee toys

I know of one front sway bar that broke and took the brake line with it. Not sure if you could have similar issues in the rear

i will check. I plan on wheeling every chance i get. More of a expo/exploring rig but fun to see where the "jeep trails" take me. Mostly out in Wyoming and Montana from May to Oct.

Front sway will sometime break end link tabs off axle which take out brake lines. Nothing to do with drop brackets though.

Wyoming and Montana sounds fun!! How do you make that happen for May to Oct.? Wish I could do that

Don't mean to hijack buttttt how is this problem cured. About to do the 2.5 and haven't heard this can happen. Thanks

Broken tabs in the front can happen on any wheeled 80. Landtank sells some beefy ones that are weld in

I have a seasonal job that runs from May through Oct in Yellowstone National Park. The pay is not so great but you cant beat the experience of living in the park for 5 months.

Sway bars are most effective when the 'arms' at the end are parallel to the frame geometry.

When the car is lifted or lowered significantly, the end links must be lengthened or shortened to compensate

at least if you don't care for body roll. when you are off-road you may wish to disconnect the sways.

I for one HATE body roll, so my long term plan involves replacing the sway bar bushings so they work properly AND getting disconnects for the links.

Wow, that's awesome. Sounds like a great experience.
