Hi - I've been away for a while, but still interested in a diesel powered option for my 80 one day.

If anyone can give a rundown on the latest options that might exist for the diesel wanna-be. THere is always some pioneering work going on at this forum, and wanted to see if there are any kits or conversion aids that may have been developed, or if its still 'roll your own' - which admittedly I'm not qualified to do.

Secondly, does anyone know of a diesel 80 cruiser available for sale - I'm in Denver, CO?!

I know 4x4Labs had a conversion kit for the OEM617, is there one for the OEM602 to any of the Land Cruiser transmissions?! Would prefer an automatic so the wife can use the truck too... :princess:

What about OEM603 - I used to have a 300SDL with that motor - it was good. Like this one here:http://smd.craigslist.org/pts/4043874145.html - would that fit the Cruiser bay?

I wasn't referencing to your post about what engine was in that cruiser you posted. I simply was stating a OM602 is what the OP should look into.

As far as a conversion kit for this, there has to be one out there...

The OM602 is a 5 cylinder and would fit better than the OM603 which is a 6 cylinder...

I am looking at an isuzu 4bd1t swap.

There are projections that with a 23t th4 turbo (~24psi) it should put out in the neighborhood of 200bhp and 400ft/lb. With nothing but the turbo and some minor adjustments to the injection pump.

Lots of GM6.2/6.5 swaps. That's on my radar - I'd like a built 6.5td with a 5 speed auto if possible.

24psi is too much for any motor to handle in stock form, IMHO.

14psi doubles the displacement of the engine and your talking about almost tripling it. (3.0l at 14psi of boost is now a 6.0l)

But I am not one to say no it can't be done. I say go for it and let us know how it holds up...:grinpimp:

24 psi is not an issue.

You must know something we don't...care to enlighten us...?

Word is it takes surges to about 60psi to start lifting the head on a 4bd1t.

Many people run between 20-30psi on them w/o even exotic hardware.

Its a TD04HL-19T Mitsubishi Turbo, 200hp and 400ft/lbs should be no issue for it at all. Would be a good idea to run an intercooler on it at 24psi but other than that and some tuning it will be reliable and produce decent power.

Depending on the engine 24psi is nothing in the diesel world.

My future build is still missing things like a budget. but i have some stock vesting in about 6 weeks.

But i plan on an ic and probably water injection as well.
