I have a 93 FZJ80 with 5.29's...what is my final crawl ratio?

Does anyone have that number?

I'm assuming a few things here, like which gearbox you have, but your ratio should be (the gear you are in) x (transfer case ratio) x (diff ratio)

In the case of an auto 93 with an A442F and HF2AV in 1st gear, the equation would be 2.950 x 2.488 x 5.29 = 38.82

Ergo your crawl ratio in 1st low is 38.82 : 1

At least that is my understanding of it. I'm happy to be corrected.

It's always been my impression that "Crawl Ratio" is only used for 1st gear x transfer x diff - i.e. the slowest possible speed. Anything other than 1st gear isn't 'crawl'.

And the Torque converter does multiply torque but goes to almost 1:1 very quickly with increasing engine rpm so it can ALMOST be neglected in figuring out a number to talk about.

Semantics?

Dan.

For real world use, you also have to factor in tire size, given that tire size directly affects the impact of diff ratio.

On 39's, your crawl ratio in reality is higher than on 35's with those same 5.29's.
