I've noticed that model numbers FJ80 and FZJ80 seem to apply to the same model years and am wondering what the difference between the two is. I'm in the market for my first Cruiser so any information would be as helpful as it would be appreciated.

    basically a different engine. The FJ80 has a 3FE engine. The FZJ80 has a 1FZ-FE engine.

    FJ80 is 91/92; FZJ80 is for model years 93-97.

There are other differences too...much of the information you seek, if you want more can be found in FAQ and the various newbie guides.
