Whats the appropriate RPM for 700r4 (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,
Owned my 75 fj40 for a couple years, never wheeled her. Specs are
- 305
- 700r4
- front disk (not sure which kind) rear drums
- stock transfer case with twin stick
- 33x10.5 on stock rims
- power steering

Since I've got the front driveshaft installed, I'd like to go wheeling which means there is going to be some freeway driving on the way to the local trails. What should the rpm be going down the freeway at 55 (Is that even safe on the 40) ?

It's a small block Chevy so whatever speed you feel comfortable doing.

You'll need to find an rpm calculator on the internet and enter the specifics of your actual tire size, differential gear ratio and I believe the 700R4 is an overdrive trans, so you'll also need to enter what percentage of the overdrive is, and how fast you want to go. Or use the GPS on your phone to see how fast you're going and then look at your tach.

it’ll be more what rpm do you want to run your engine at. i have a 700r4 n my chevelle and had the governor changed to 4800 rpm wide open throttle before it shifts. it cruises happily at 2200 at 65mph. it’s a pretty stout tranny and i’m sure will happily cruise behind a 305. does you’re torque converter have a lock up? heat will be what kills it. not rpm
