Whats a good price on a 75 front axle with disc brakes

If you have to tear into it anyway, it would be a lot easier and cheaper to add disc brakes to the one that's already happily bolted to your leaf springs. You should be able to do the whole thing for about $500 worth of new and used parts, a weekend of your time and a metric ton of newspaper, rags and degreaser.

I have a line on a front axle to swap into my rig. Mine is fine , but has drums. I found one with discs for 650.00. . He said the knuckles need rebuilt. Not sure about rotors pads and calipers. What is a fair price ?

That's pretty steep if you have to do a knuckle rebuild on top of not knowing the caliper and rotor condition.

Disc didn't come on the stock axle until 76.

I picked up front and rear axles from a 76 for $50 as a comparison. I put about $500 into bearings, seals, calipers and rotors. Keep yours and add disc. It's not too difficult and you'll be $$$ ahead.

That's on the steeper end. There are a lot of bone yards on the front range where you could find mini truck knuckles out.

100 bucks seems about right

Hell no I'm not paying 650

NO WAY !!! :flipoff2: $650 Is Way Too Much. Keep looking. You can find a way better here on the Classifieds. Even on CL.

Knuckles, steering arms, spindles from a 77 FJ40 $300
Fine spline birfs and warn hubs $100
Warn hub gasket kit $30
Knuckle rebuild kit with wheel bearings $184
Backing plate eliminator kit $80
New rotors $70
Caliper rebuild kit and new pads $47
Total $811

I paid $100.

There's a complete drivable 82 bj60 for sale locally for $750 (frame needs repair)... $650 for just the axle is steep.

$650 is way to high. I picked up 1977 front and rear axles for $300 and they supposedly had been rebuilt a few years ago. Looking at the knuckle wipes and parts looks like it is true. While these were the only fj40 axles I have seen for sale within a few hours of my house in over 2 years this price was acceptable. But at $650 it should be 100% rebuilt with a locker and then maybe but still high.

let me see..
knuckle bearing kit (cruiser outfitters ) 90.00
wheel bearing kits ( cruiser outfitters) 80.00
rotors ( auto zone ) 100.00
loaded calipers ( rock auto ) 165.00
diff rebuild kit (cruiser outfitters ) 121.00
cheapest locker ( cruiser outfitters ) 310.00
total major parts......................................................866.00

These vendors all have great prices
This doesn't include oil, grease, labor or any small parts you may encounter.
If you have a 100% rebuilt front end for under 650.00 I'll buy it now

I paid a hundred bux for a mini axle. Bought vented discs and 4 piston calipers and a rebuild kit from Kurt at cruiseroutfitters.com and came out way cheaper than 650. pass on it, there are better deals. If you do end up having to rebuild an axle, look in to the 4 piston caliper and vented rotors for better performance.

I got a '76 axle right here off of Mud for $175, if I recall it correct. It needed a full rebuild.
