What's a fair replacement cost for an HJ61 (12-ht) clutch and throw out bearing?

1989 hj61 339,000kms and finally a little squeal from the throw out bearing when the clutch isn't in. I suppose I'll replace the whole deal, but I'm not sure what a fair price is to replace it? I'm fine with Toyota parts, or aftermarket options as this isn't a true off-roader, or dedicated hauler, but more "omni-capable".

Is $850 too much?

Price can vary depending on OEM or aftermarket. I just got some awesome clutch kits from Cruiser Outfitters (801-563-1277), price was very reasonable.

My machanic did it for 400 in NY on my HJ60. I brought in the parts.i was quoted 850 somewhere else. It's a fairly easy job, if you have a lift or a way to get under there and drop the tranny.

Is that parts or parts and labour or just labour? Ive had that squeal from the throw out bearing for 3 years ,its never gotten any worse, so no need to rush into it if you are gentle on take offs.
Mechanics in Australia usually quote around 8-10 hours labour.

Last month, it cost me 600$ CAN (+ shipping) for an 12HT Exedy clutch kit from a Canadian cruiser part supplier that he pretended it was an HD kit. 2 day later I realize that I could get, elsewhere, in Canada, a real HD Exedy kit for 60$ more and... the same Exedy kit that I bought for 75$ less.

If I was in US, I would go with Cruiser Outfiter clutch kit. Quality parts and fair price (in retrospect, I realize that I should not have to be scared of customs fees). I overpaid my kit...:censor:

It take 7hrs for my mechanic to do the job.

Do the flywheel to.

I was looking at Exedy kits. In my experience HD or heavy duty clutches don't afford any more strength, just more effort to press the clutch lol.

My local dealership quoted my $1,600 for parts labor and flywheel resurface. They were specific that a floor panel needed to be lifted for access. Is this true? I'm tempted to have my local transmission shop do or as they're half that cost. I just worry about anyone's experience with a JDM diesel since I'm sore it's a bit different

No floor panel has to be lifted to change the clutch on a 60 series. In fact, you cannot lift a floor panel, as it is part of the chassis. Maybe they are talking about the plate around the shifters, which has to be unbolted to remove the shifter from transmission and transfer. (5x10mm bolts, so that is not a big deal.
