Lots of carbon,250,000 miles valve cover off. Gasket in pieces. Used STP CLEANER DID NOTHING! Recommendations for cleaning inside of valve cover? Using engine degreaser with little effect. Thanks, Mike

Brillo and elbow grease?

That is one nasty job! I tried many diffent things and found MEK worked best, but that too is nasty stuff. Plan on letting is soak. you don't need to submerge the whole thing though. just put aome on an area and cover it so it doesn't evaporate right away and then scrub with a parts brush or abbrassive pad.... repeat.

Yup - Ovencleaner - Nasty stuff but works great.

Unless you want to take it somewhere and have it soda blasted or hot tanked. Don't media blast it, you'll never get the abrasive out of the baffel.

another here for MEK or oven cleaner.

Really I vote brake cleaner and a little scrubbing that will knock most all the stuff off that could fall back in there.

20 minutes to get the cover off. 3 hours to clean it ,must have never been done.Just to let everyone know the stuff that comes off the shelf did not begin to remove the carbon, just wasted my money...Mike

Dish soap and a scotch brite worked for me. :D

But then again I had no carbon build-up.

I think I learned the additives to clean your engine insides are probably a waste of money they make us feel good but are not a replacement for pulling the parts off and a comercial dip. 2 cents Mike
