I was driving north on Coors (the old one east of the mall) near Alameda and spotted a unique machine heading south towards the Coors bypass. It looked like a 40 from a distance but the closer it got, the more I realized how rare it was. It was right hand drive, the top was off, there was no roll cage and the wheelbase was longer than the FJ40s I'm familiar with. It was a solid tub, not like a pickup. Only two doors (not installed because the top was off too. It was a yellowish color.

What was it and does anyone know this owner or vehicle?

sounds like a troopie. i think i've seen the one you saw, but not with the top off. IIRC, Greg talked to that guy once. they weren't sold in the US, but there are a few around that were imported.

Yeah, that was the guy with the Troopy. His patents live in Corrales so he's around the West side a lot. I saw him yesterday without the top on. We wave every time we see each other - nice enough guy but doesnt' seem into the club thing.

I thought a Troopie had 4 doors and was the predecessor to the 55. I just found some pictures that clears that up. I also didn't realize that you could take the top off a Troopie.

His name is Spencer Komadina. It is a RHD troopie. He bought it from some importer up in Detroit. He flew out to Detroit and drove it all the way home to NM. He reported just shy of 30mpg. It is a diesel, I think he told me it is a 5 speed and I know it has the full floating rear. Freakin' tough rig. He brews biodiesel for it down on his parents spread in Coralles. Can you imagine driving that thing and getting that kind of mpg plus biodiesel? Nice. I have been trying to get him to come with me when I go to my first meeting as well. I am the A-hole who was looking forward to coming to the last meeting on a Sunday. I botched that whole thing all the way around. Anyways hopefully I'll see you all at the next meeting and I'll try to bring Spencer so we can all check out the rig in person.

His rig is sweet. Funky driving a 5 speed with the left hand. I am actually starting to assemble parts for a diesel swap myself. I have an FJ60. I just bought an '87 chevy pickup with a 6.2L. Anyways, I don't mean to hijack the thread. I'm sure there will be more on my build later as I will need to tap into all of your expertise.

We need to assimilate him into the collective....resistance is Futile.
