Removing split case for rebuild and install on AA adapter.

got everything off except the input gear needed to separate xfer.

manual says SST but is there anything else that works? Couldn’t get my 3 jaw puller around it.
TIA!

Is there a snap ring on the shaft?

get or make a bigger gear puller. It shouldn't be on there super tight either way

it should slide off with little fuss. I never needed a puller.

They aren't supposed slide off without fuss, they're designed to be a light press fit. Over time the splines wear out and they get easier to remove/install.

It doesn't take long. I pulled the input gear from a 2 year old transfer case that only had 38K miles on it from the factory back in 1988 and the input gear slid right off.

That’s a great memory. I can barely remember things I did earlier this year.

The FSM (at least the FJ62 version) states it’s supposed to be removed and installed with a SS, yes they’ve all been loose for me too.
My current DIY McNamara gear is on there pretty tight.

I couldn’t make any progress trying to remove by hand. 169k on the xfer and still tight.

Gee, with all this talk about tightness, I'm so tempted to do a 'Mom' joke ... o_O

:flush:

But yo momma didn't complain!
