So tonight I get into my truck to head for work, turn on my lights, and I have no dash lighting, tail lights, or marker lights. So naturally, my first thought is "fuse". Sure enough the 15A fuse is blown. I change it, *pop* that one goes. I change it again, thinking maybe that one may have been a fluke bad fuse. Nope, popped again.

So I'm about to go out and change out my marker lights just in case maybe one burnt out and created a short in the circuit that allowed enough power to pass through it to blow the fuse. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions on things to check?

I would say that you have a wire somewhere, probably underneath that has a bare spot in it causing it to ground out on the frame or body.

Crap, I was fearing that it would lead to that. I just got back in, and ALL my marker lights were blown too. Most of them were the factory original bulbs, which led me to think that maybe that was the cause. So I replaced all of them, and the fuse popped again. I don't get it, since I was driving downtown just yesterday and didn't have a single problem at all. I actually haven't done ANY work on my truck since my lights worked :frown:

This is going to be a nightmare, because I work nights, and you get a fatass ticket for driving with your marker lights out here...

Anyone know where in the truck the tail light relay is? I figure I may as well test that too and see if that might have something to do with my fuse problem.

I had this happen once. My approach was to disconnect all the bulbs that were on the circuit that was blowing the fuse. This included taillights, parking lights, side marker lights, dash lights, and maybe a few others. Then with the power on, and a fresh fuse installed, I began to plug the lights back in, one by one. Somewhere along the line I corrected the problem without knowing it because I was able to replug all the bulbs without the fuse blowing. Problem has not returned.

I'll give that a shot once I get back at the end of this week. The relay still clicks when I flip the switch, so it seems to still be good. It's pretty old and has some corrosion around the housing, so I'm going to replace it anyway and then I'll take my truck to the auto shop and go through every single bulb in the circuit. Hopefully I'll find the problem before I end up getting a ticket for driving without marker lights

Is there an aftermarket trailer wiring adapter on your truck? If so, you might try removing it.

This, I believe, will be your answer. I lost count of how many of these adapters that have caused blown light fuses for me....

I've got the connector on my wiring harness, but nothing attached to it. I"ll take a look on Friday when I'm looking it over, though. I so hope there's not a bare wire somewhere. that'll be a nightmare to find.
